Weekly summary: Dec. 1 - Dec. 7, 2024

Somehow, I have a lot to share from this past week, so let's just get right to it.
I made my usual monthly writing goals post for December. And I'm happy to say I've already accomplished one goal (finishing my exchange fic) 😁
I'm starting on treats now, so hopefully I can do a few. I'd also like to be able to write something for
femslashfete again, since it's been a while. I've just been stuck in indecisive mode again for that each week lately.

As I mentioned in last week's summary, I was doing a rewatch of the 2007 live action Hana Kimi series. And I finally finished that up last Sunday.
Overall, it was a fun rewatch. (It had been so long, it was like watching for the first time again 😁). Parts of it were dated (I think especially in regards to anything queer), but on the whole, it was still really entertaining. I laughed so hard so many times.
It's available for free on Viki if anyone is interested in watching!

Ultraman stuff!
Ishido's diary for episode 19 was the one I was really looking forward to. And it didn't disappoint! I'm glad we got to see how Ishido was feeling while Yuma was missing 👀 Also, he may be piecing a few things together now about Yuma and Arc... 👀
Unfortunately, this week's Arc episode (#21) didn't really vibe with me. I just don't think I'm ever gonna enjoy these one-off episodes focused on someone who isn't in the main cast. (I felt the same about episode 10 too.) Maybe I just wanted Rin to have a little more focus, but she didn't.
Anyway, a lot of people on Twitter really loved the episode, so I'm glad for that (even if I didn't). And I did enjoy the fight scene a lot!! For many reasons!
In other Ultraman news, Blazar is no longer available on YouTube in the US (and Canada too, I think) 😭 I hate region-locking!
I mean, it's fine for me because I do have the blu-ray. But it's annoying that they took it down with no notice (even GundamInfo lets you know ahead of time before they remove a series) and now I can't rec it to my friends. (Not that my friends ever watched, but still!) I'm hoping it'll end up on Tubi eventually, since they have a bunch of other Ultraman series.
In happier things, I finally watched the Blazar movie! It was fun, even though I immediately figured out the plot twist 😂 It felt like an extra long episode of the series, tbh. (They even included the usual opening credits 😂)
The final scene was absolutely perfect. 10/10 no notes!

Posted about it earlier this week, but I decided to signup for Fandomtrees again. My tree of requests is here. And you can check out the entire masterpost here. I'm looking forward to participating again!

Music stuff!
Here's a nice live concert performance of Aina the End singing Red Birthmark
I stumbled across this string ensemble that did a fun cover of Tank (the Cowboy Bebop opening theme). It's cool to see jazz music translated to different instruments!
And, lastly, I was surprised to discover that Buck-Tick has a new single out! I wrote about when their lead singer unexpectedly passed away last year, and I wasn't sure what they were gonna do moving forward. But the guitarists are splitting singing duties, and the band is still releasing music. (They have a new album out too)
***
A new Gundam series was announced this week, and the name of it looks like someone accidentally slapped a keyboard while sneezing 😂
Gundam Gquuuuuux
(it's pronounced G-quaks, apparently)
Anyway, it looks to be another lady protagonist, so I'm happy to see that! (I have a feeling we aren't getting canon queer content again tho)
Here is the official website for the series, which includes some brief character descriptions.
And here is the ANN article announcing the news.
If they put this on YouTube like G-witch, I'll be able to watch it 🤞
***
Two quick fic recs (again, not a lot of time for reading this past week). Both YGO fics:
☆ a fun little bodyswap fic featuring Ryou and Malik
☆ a lovely sweet fic where Yugi and Atem bond over eyeshadow
***
Not too much to share about offline life this week. But I did see two bald eagles! It's been a while since I've seen any of the local ones. But they're still here 🥰 one of them was actually a juvenile (they look different), so that was cool too.
Maybe one day I'll get a decent photo of one of them.
That's it for this week's summary. Wishing everyone a happy week ahead!
