Hi! I'm Holly! (she/her) Welcome to my journal!
Mostly, I like to do a lot of writing, ranging from fanfic (check out my ao3 account here) to recaps, reviews, and summaries of things I really enjoy (visit my website for older reviews and recaps here, though I'm no longer updating the site).
I generally like any kind of Japanese media I can get my hands on. But a few fandoms I'm perennially interested in include Avatar the Last Airbender, Fullmetal Alchemist, My Hero Academia, Star Trek Voyager (and other 90s Trek series), Stargate SG-1, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Yu Yu Hakusho. I'm also into a few Gundam series (namely IBO and G-witch), and my current interest is Tokusatsu. But you'll probably find me rambling about plenty of other series/movies/etc around here too. Check out the tags if you're looking for something specific!
I'm also a longtime listener of Japanese music. I started off enjoying opening and ending themes from different anime back when I was in high school, and I branched out from there. I like anything from old visual kei to boy bands to all-girl j-metal bands.
That's probably all the important things to know about me!
Feel free to say hi here on the intro post or any random post that catches your interest. Thanks for reading!
P.S. you can also say hi to me over on Twitter for as long as it remains functioning...

This week: the Gridman Alliance takes a field trip; the astronomy club deals with mean comments on the internet; and Voyager has a giant bug problem!!!
Title quote comes from Voyager. But alternative choices this week were "amnesia's such a pain in the ass" (Gridman) and "so there's no point in having ideals?" (Teo)
Spoilers, as always, below:

Getting TOO close to nature
Nov. 4th, 2026 12:47 pmWeird thing that happened yesterday: I was leaving the office and was pushing the door closed behind me when I felt something cold and kinda wet hit the side of my hand. I couldn't see it because of the way my hand was angled, so I just shook my hand twice thinking it was maybe a bug. But the feeling didn't go away, so I swiped whatever it was off with my phone. And when I looked down to see what it was, I discovered a little brown lizard 😱 who then scurried away afterwards
I don't dislike lizards but I don't want to be that close to one!!! 😂

Friday Five answers (10/30/26)
Oct. 30th, 2026 01:23 pmSpooky season edition of ![[community profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/community.png)
thefridayfive this week!
1. Name all the orange items in the room you are in.
Looks like nothing actually 😅 (if I were writing this at home, the answer would be some orange pumpkin decorations.)
2. What's your favorite fall treat?
I like apple cider!
3. What's your favorite Halloween candy?
I only like chocolate stuff, like Reese's, kitkats, Hershey bars. I actually don't really like candy otherwise
4. What's your favorite scary/horror movie?
I don't generally watch scary/horror movies, but I do enjoy reading short horror fiction occasionally. My favorite is probably "The Cask of Amontillado" by Edgar Allen Poe
5. What are you doing on October 31?
As I mentioned in this post yesterday, I'm planning to do a movie marathon and maybe cook some silly-looking spooky meals. My movie list is mostly only tangently-related to Halloween, so I guess it'll be more like a cozy marathon 😊 I'm still undecided about the food though.

A jumble of thoughts
Oct. 29th, 2026 12:57 pmI've been pleasantly surprised by how much I'm enjoying My-th so far. I'm trying not to compare it to Zeztz too much, but I don't think I was ever going "ahhhhh I need the next episode right now" as consistently as I am for My-th so far. Actually, after Monday's episode this week, I was thinking so much about a fic idea that I got up after midnight and scribbled out the whole first draft in like an hour. (I should have been sleeping lol). I have yet to edit it, but I'm kinda excited about eventually posting it.
***
Speaking of Kamen Rider, I have been watching one episode of Kuuga per day each morning (as motivation to get me out of bed lol... it's working though). This is like my third or fourth rewatch now, but I still keep noticing things I missed the first time. And I really enjoy all the location shooting they did for this show. Just so many neat and interesting places each episode (especially for wherever the Grongi are). My dream interview would be to talk to whoever did location scouting for this show 😅 Impossible, but I think about it all the time.
***
I finally finished the puzzle I was doing off and on the past few weeks. And now I'm like, I wanna do another puzzle right now! But I also just want to appreciate the completed piece first too. The eternal struggle of doing puzzles 😂
***
Random dialect question: I'm not sure if this is a local part of my Southern dialect or it's more widespread, so I'll ask here. Do any of y'all say "I'm anxious to [get started or do random thing]" when you mean you're excited about it or looking forward to it? Sometimes I want to use this phrase in writing, but then I wonder if people would automatically assume "anxious to" means something negative because anxiety has generally negative connotations. But the phrase here is more like anticipation.
Just wondering!
***
Lastly, if you have Halloween plans this year, please tell me about them!
I think I'm gonna have a movie marathon. And maybe I will try to come up with some easy Halloween inspired meals that day. Usually it's hard for me to do something for the holiday on a work day, but it's Saturday this year so I have the whole day free 😁

Friday Five answers (10/23/26)
Oct. 23rd, 2026 12:49 pmFinally have a chance to answer thefridayfive this week!
1. How often do you attend live theater performances?
Hardly ever now, which is a shame because I love them! (Though I might get to see three different local shows in November actually, which is unusual for me.)
2. Local community theater or professional theater productions?
Local theater is what I usually get to see because we have a few youth theater groups here! I couldn't tell you the last time I had the opportunity to see a professional production. Maybe it was back in college?
3. Which do you prefer: dramas or musicals?
I like both, but I guess I like musicals a little better. I love a good choreographed song-and-dance number. (I will never forget that one time I went to a high school performance of Pirates of Penzance, and one of the pirates did a barrel roll under the piano (which was off stage) during "With Catlike Tread" 😂 You just don't get moments like that in dramas)
4. Have you ever participated in a theatrical production, whether acting, singing or tech?
No... although I would have loved to have the opportunity when I was in high school. Now, I'm content just being in the audience.
5. What was the last play or other staged production you attended?
Earlier this year, I went to the local youth theater's production of "To Kill a Mockingbird." They did such a great job! I was really impressed.
~~~~~~~
Feel free to tell me about your own favorite theater performances, experiences, songs, etc!
Oct. 11th, 2026 01:47 pmIt's a cloudy, rainy Sunday morning here, but I'm in a sunny mood, so that makes up for it 🌞 I made it through an incredibly busy week, and I feel very accomplished for it.
NOTE: in the time between when I started writing this post this morning and when I actually posted it on Dreamwidth, the power went out here 😩 so I'm in less of a sunny mood now than before. It could be hours before it comes back, so I might not be around the rest of the day. Oh well! I think I'm going to work on some puzzles
ETA: the power was out for about 6 hours before it returned. I did, in fact, work on a puzzle while I waited lol
Gridman!!! (and other stuff)
Oct. 7th, 2026 08:38 pmI need everyone to know that SSSS.Gridman episode one is currently available on the official Ultraman YouTube channel!! They're gonna stream all 12 episodes, but it'll be one episode weekly on Tuesdays. And I think each episode is only available for one week. I don't think it's region-locked but I don't know for sure.
I watched the series a few years ago and really loved it. I definitely recommend! (Also I'm gonna add it to my weekly TV reviews, because why not!!)
I'm excited about the fic requests I've received so far for Ficortreat and the precuretokuprompt Halloween event. I'm already working on them!
(But first I have to post my shiritori turn over atwritetomyheart because I forgot to do it on Monday 😅)
***
Lastly, if anyone read my recent garden update where I mentioned the chestnut trees, I'm happy to report that there actually are decent-sized chestnuts on it this year, despite all odds. Now I've gotta figure out what to do with chestnuts because this is the first year I've gotten more than like... five 😁
Happy spooky season!! 🎃👻🎃👻🎃
I want to take part in the Halloween event happening over at precuretokuprompt because it seems fun! Here's what I can offer, and then anyone can leave me a comment with a request. (It's like Fic or Treat!)
As per the rules of this event, "all works must be set in the Taisho era (30th July, 1912 - 25th December, 1926) or feature characters displaced from that moment in time." This means I'll be writing some Taisho era AUs... or time travel! (if anyone actually requests anything 😅). I love an excuse to write an AU!
Trek Thoughts #7: Those Old Scientists
Oct. 3rd, 2026 08:33 pmI actually had a chance to watch the Strange New Worlds season 2 episode "Those Old Scientists" this week.
It's the crossover episode with Lower Decks, and it's absolutely delightful!! I remember seeing clips online after it first aired, so I was already excited. But seeing the episode in full now did not disappoint.
I don't have anything real insightful to say about it, but I wanted to record my thoughts on it anyway.
