Weekly summary: Jan. 21 - Jan. 27, 2024
Jan. 28th, 2024 07:02 amI have been awake since 4:30am (for anxiety reasons, I suppose) so I figure I might as well go ahead and write this post. It's been a weird week. The weather was unseasonably warm for a few days, but I was too busy with work to really enjoy it 😩
Despite work doing its best to steal all my free time, I did manage to enjoy a few things this past week.
I think I've given up on the idea of writing a separate post for Miss Scarlet and the Duke episodes. So a few thoughts on season 4, episode 3: this one was REALLY GOOD! The bulk of the episode was a flashback to the first time Eliza and William meet, and they get to solve a murder together. It was a lot of fun! I gotta commend the actors who played the younger versions of Eliza and William because they were perfect at mimicking the mannerisms and voice tone of actors Kate Phillips and Stuart Martin. I enjoyed this episode so much that I watched it twice 😂
Also, this only makes sense to me but Stuart Martin always looks like off-brand Hugh Jackman to me, so I thought it was extra funny that the actor playing his younger self looked like off-brand Tom Holland 😂
Anyway, tonight's episode promises the return of Patrick Nash, so that should also be entertaining. Only three episodes left for this season!

I was pleasantly surprised by this bonus gift for Fandomtrees this week: lovely Zukka art embedded in the comment. I had gifted this person a fic and they gifted me art as a thank you 🥹💜 both the fic and art featured tea, so we really had a little impromptu tea time exchange! All in all, I think Fandomtrees was a really fun event and I'll probably sign up next year too

Speaking of atla, did y'all see the new Netflix live action trailer this week?
I think it doesn't look terrible! But then again, anything will be better than the last time someone made a live action version of this series, so it's a low bar to cross. Mostly I was just excited to briefly see Suki here 🥰
I hear that this is only eight episodes, so really I just hope it's not too insanely rushed like the YYH series was (eight episodes is better than five at least!)

Music stuff!
Just one video this week: Kanjani8 was on The First Take again to perform Osaka Romanesque

I have two FMAB fic recs this week, and both happen to be Alphonse-centric!
This post-canon fic is Al struggling over not being able to protect people the way he could in his armor. Features Al/Mei as the pairing. Also should include a brief content warning for guns.
Secondly, this pre-canon fic is a take on Al's identity crisis that felt like it could have easily been a one-off episode of the series itself. I really enjoyed it! (Also briefly includes a gun too, but not to the extent of the other fic)

Here is a delightful Twitter thread about quasi-moons. I love cool space facts!

It's been a few months but I spotted another bald eagle on my way to work on Tuesday! I've seen more in the past two years than I ever have in my life. I was talking about this with a coworker, who said the same thing, and we're curious if the influx of bald eagles is because they're moving here due to habitat reduction elsewhere (that would be bad) or the population has just increased so much (that would be good). I have no idea, but I do enjoy spotting them in the wild. They're super majestic and maybe one day I'll get a photo of one.
In other nature news, a bunch of deer just narrowly avoided hitting my car one morning this week as they were running across the highway 😒 not cool, deer. Not cool

Anyway, that's it for this week's summary. My brain has felt like potato soup lately, so I haven't been as active here as I wanted to lately (*looks forlornly at Snowflake Challenge which maybe I'll get back to eventually*). Work is gonna be extra exhausting this week, but I'll get through it and then things will be mostly back to the usual routine.
Anyway, I'm gonna try to sleep again. Wishing everyone a low-stress week ahead!

Date: 2024-01-29 02:26 am (UTC)The art gift was so unexpected but extremely lovely! It's the exact kind of community fandom feeling that I've enjoyed since joining Dreamwidth, compared to other fandom spaces
I managed a little nap, and hoping for better luck tonight 😅🤞
