So I managed to watch the first episode of the new Starfleet Academy series, and I loved it! I'll have a review in my weekly review post on Saturday, but I try to keep those relatively short, so I'm gonna throw all my rambling about the characters here instead. (Spoilers for episode one)
☆ The Doctor!! Voyager has always been my favorite series, so I am absolutely thrilled to see Robert Picardo back again. He was fine in Prodigy, but I enjoy the live action version even more. Even after 800, 900 years, the Doctor's bedside manner is still somewhat prickly. It's delightful 🤠I also love that he's the head of the Opera Club!! I hope someone actually signs up for the club this season
☆ Nahla Ake: I wasn't sure if I was gonna like her or not. Character who reluctantly returns from retirement is not my favorite trope. But she's also a teacher, and I do love that part of her. She gets cozy in the captain's chair, and her vibes kinda reminded me of Captain Janeway (maybe that's just the Voyager fan in me lol)
☆ Caleb Mir: I also wasn't sure if I was gonna like him because main characters sometimes end up annoying me. But he reminds me of Dal from Prodigy (bit of an outsider but with a slightly-earned sense of confidence), so I like him so far. I look forward to this loner making friends! (Also, he is very nice looking. I'm sad they made him cut his hair ðŸ˜)
☆ Jay-Den: he's gonna be my favorite, I can already tell. I love Klingons in general, but he's also a bit of an outsider (especially in terms of temperament), so I'm excited to see where his storyline goes. Also he's a birdwatcher! A+ hobby to have.
☆ Sam: she's adorable 🥰 the actress is doing a lovely job of making her a little quirky (since she's a four-month-old hologram) but also endearing. She reminds me of Rok-Tahk from Prodigy, and they would be besties I think if they lived in the same time period.
☆ Genesis: I like her character design and I wanna learn more about her species. But her personality didn't catch my interest as much as the others yet. She has potential tho!
☆ Reymi: the typical bully who will become your friend after a crisis. At least, I'm pretty sure that's what they're setting up. He's also not very interesting to me yet, but I do wanna know more about his species too. Especially his ability to look like a normal human most of the time?
☆ Lura: I didn't like her first appearance because drill sergeant characters are not appealing to me. But then she got injured in the second half of the episode, and I liked her a lot more in that situation. She's actually a badass who can back up all that bark. In pain and possibly dying but still collected and level-headed in the crisis. Maybe she'll end up as one of my faves too. (She's part Klingon 👀)
☆ Anisha Mir: not much more than a cameo so far but I have to mention her because she's played by the great Tatiana Maslany. I suddenly wanna rewatch Orphan Black
☆ I... will not remember the names of the bridge crew 😂
