alchemicink: Martin Upmont looking at his phone (Martin)

This week: the protagonists of SSBC and Ultraman Omega are under the weather, everyone on Whale Store has to deal with mean moms, the Gozyugers fight with their bare fists, and 10 Things... continues to stall the plot to avoid drama.

Some spoilers below (especially for SSBC)

Gozyuger (episode 25)

This week's episode wrapped up the Universe LuPat storyline from the previous episode, which was fine, but I remained uninterested in the guest characters.

What I did like was the team getting to do a lot of fighting without their suits, something we don't get to see too often. All the fight choreos were fun. And when they did suit up, I was glad to see Ryuugi finally use his Carranger ring gifted to him by Shoko. He's had it for 10+ episodes now, so it was time! (Also appreciated that he and Rikuo teamed up for that little fight. They're my favorite duo, tbh)

But other than that, I don't have too many thoughts. The preview for the next episode looks SUPER FUN tho 👀😁

SSBC (episode 6)

If you watch enough American investigative shows, then you learn quickly that a recognizable guest star is often the culprit in that episode's case. So I easily figured out the big twist in this week's SSBC episode, since I recognized Chiba Yudai. (Hi, Chiba Yudai! Long time, no see!)

Nevertheless, even though I knew who was behind everything, I still ended up completely fascinated by this episode. Truly, I just really enjoy seeing all the weird ways they use technology to gather evidence and also find people/cars/secret hideouts, etc. Using a drone and a laser to secretly record a phone call? Insane!! I loved how ridiculous that was. (It is fun to watch as fiction; not fun to think about how much surveillance we are under in real life 😬)

Nanami was sidelined this episode thanks to sudden dramatic appendicitis, so I thought maybe others would get a chance to shine. But he ended up doing work even from his hospital bed. Nanami noooooo! Take the break and recover! (But he basically is the main character, after all...)

Anyway, this show is so fun to watch each week. They don't get major moments often but I really enjoy Takaki's character and his kohai, who are always on the go. (Kohai guy was wearing tennis shoes with his suit this week 😂 smart decision!)

Whale Store (episode 8)

We have arrived at The Breakup. Which isn't unexpected, so I spent the whole episode waiting for it to happen. Wan wants to do things on her own and Maewnam just wants to help so badly. She's decided to drop her PhD, which is something she wanted to do anyway, and give the money to Wan. But then she lies about where the money came from. Clearly they need to communicate better. Especially when Wan is getting lectures from Maewnam's mean mom, so her perspective is getting a bit twisted. (Though I will say I appreciated that the show has given us enough information about Maewnam's mom that you can understand why she's being so harsh. Even if you don't agree)

Anyway, I expect them to be back together next episode (because this show is bad at pacing and there's only two episodes left.) Hopefully after they have some serious conversations. We shall see.

Maewnam's friends continue to exist in what feels like a separate series entirely, so I'm still mostly ignoring that. But I do have to mention that the mom here is suddenly being very mean with no explanation at all. What's up with that?? There's no need to drag this part out.

Lastly, I just wanna point out the egregious waste of advertising revenue in that scene with all the Mouse Mart billboards 😂 it was supposed to be a serious moment but all I kept thinking was "you can't waste all your ad dollars on this one spot!! How do YOU stay in business??" 😂

10 things... (episode 7)

This week the guys go shopping! It was cute as usual -- Keishi was very excited to pick out matching bowls and mugs. But other than that, the plot has slowed to a bit of a crawl. I personally don't mind it so much, because we get more insight into each of their thoughts that way -- and I think Tojo's mindset is fascinating to examine -- but I have seen complaints online about this too. Maybe I like it more because I haven't read the manga so I have no comparison?

Regardless, I just think Tojo's intense insecurities and constant second-guessing are interesting. He's spent so much time covering up who he is (a gay man who likes cute stuff) to fit into corporate office life and a society that says he should be neither of those things. And he's been alone for at least ten years. So, to me, it makes sense that Keishi's gotta work slow to peel away all those protective layers. I like watching that.

I was, however, mildly annoyed that Keishi finally opened up to Tojo at the end of the episode about his feelings, but Tojo was passed out drunk at that point. No!! He's gonna have to say it all again later! Oh well 😞 At least the two of them holding hands was cute. But this really sorta feels like the calm before the storm...

Ultraman Omega (episode 7)

I wish Ayu-nee would make me okayu!

That's honestly the biggest thought I had after this episode 😅 okay, actually, my thought was more that I wished Ayumu could get more screentime and be let in on the secret so she's fully part of the group. Of the three main cast, she's the least developed so far. I hope that changes!

As for the rest of the plot, Sorato catches a cold and Kosei finds a new meteor kaiju friend. Also, an annoying streamer was there too. I could have done without him, and honestly, I didn't care too much about the new kaiju friend either. But sick Sorato was entertaining. I liked that bit where he was excited about the possibility of going to a hospital 😂

Otherwise, the series still feels sorta aimless to me right now. I like it but I don't feel the need to rewatch it. But the preview for next week looked fun so I am looking forward to that!
