Weekly summary: June 11 - June 24, 2023

This is a double week summary because life got in the way last weekend, and I never got to put together the post. So I just decided to combine them together instead! Just a bit longer than usual, but hopefully still filled with some interesting stuff.
I've procrastinated long enough. Let's get to it!
So Ousasa wrapped up with the final two episodes. There was, of course, a lot of drama to go around: the sham marriage getting publicly revealed (followed by a whole Youtuber style apology video), an actual divorce that neither really wanted (thanks evil scheming mother), and a ten-month time skip (of course).
But there was a lot of silly fun moments too: a date in which they inexplicably do the Chicken Dance at a German restaurant, several sweet kisses, and a pizza that looked like Tougou's face! ๐
In the end though, things all work out and Tougou and Ayaka get married once more, this time as two people who are actually in love with each other ๐ When I started watching the drama, I pretty much knew this is where it would end up, but knowing the ending doesn't make it any less satisfying!
All in all, it was a fun series to watch! (And really great practice for my rusty Japanese skills lol)
Next, I'll share some fanfic stuff! The last two weeks were really busy ๐
Things I've posted:
โ A kiss would make it better (bnha, shinkami)
โ The family disappointment (bnha, YYH crossover for the Intoabar challenge)
โ in and out (atla, zukki)
โ Down the aisle, beside you (Fruits Basket, Kyou/Tohru)
โ Celestial (atla, yuetara)
Those last three were for the 48 flash exchange, which was a lot of fun to do again! And Celestial actually ended up being my 200th fic on Ao3! ๐ฅณ I think that's really cool
I also received a few gifts from the 48 exchange:
โ One Thousand Rice Balls (Fruits Basket, Kyou/Tohru)
โ It's You and Me, That's My Whole World (bnha, momojirou)
โ On cloud nine (Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Ed/Winry)
All of my gifts were so sweet and wonderful! Give them a read!
Because I was so busy, I haven't had much time for reading lately, but maybe I'll have more fic recs next week!
And now, music! It was a busy two weeks, so lots of nice things to share this time:
I've been absolutely obsessed with this mashup of the main themes from Gundam IBO and G-witch! It's really a masterful blend of the best parts of both songs. I've been looping it a lot lately!
HSJ released another concert performance video, and it's one of my all-time favorites! "Come back...?" is a song on their Smart album, with lyrics written by Hikaru. This song is so catchy, I often listen to it a few times in a row when I'm listening to that album. Anyway, I have this concert DVD, so this performance isn't anything new to me, but it's great to be able to pull it up on YouTube now whenever I want!
Nemophilia also released a live performance video for their song "revive." I've never heard it before which is a good reminder that I need to dig into their discography sometime!
After 11 years, Versailles is back with a new single!! And I gotta say... they still got it after all this time. "Vogue" felt like quintessential Versailles. I really enjoyed the song and getting to see the band back together on screen. (How have none of them aged in the past decade?)
Switching back to HSJ, they also released their music video for "Give Me Love," which was a theme song for another drama Yamada was in back in... 2016 I think? Anyway, I only sometimes like this song, but the music video makes me laugh. Because it just inexplicably looks like they're all trapped in an Ikea showroom ๐
And if you like HSJ and lo-fi tunes, here's a 45 minute video of just that! I don't know why the Johnnys Shop channel keeps sharing lo-fi mixes, but this was nice to listen to as background music around my house this week.
Wagakki Band has been kinda quiet lately but here's a nice concert performance video they just shared! I believe this song is from their album where they covered a bunch of vocaloid songs.
Gacharic Spin is still doing promo for their upcoming new album, so here's another new song from it! "Lonely Mart" is a live performance instead of a PV, but it's still really lovely. Wish they had added English subtitles tho!
Other than that, I don't have much else to add for this summary post. In my not-online life, I went to the annual 4-H livestock show recently, which is always fun despite the June heat. The children get to show off the farm animals they've raised, and it's always really cute to see the young ones partipate.
My garden is also doing relatively well right now. I've started picking squash and zucchini! And I should have peppers and tomatoes ready soon ๐ (the worst part is that I need to chop the weeds trying to grow up out there, but I'll get it taken care of eventually!)
Wishing everyone a nice week ahead!

Date: 2023-06-28 05:58 pm (UTC)I need to check out your intoabar especially as Iโm so curious!
Ooo I didnโt realize there were lofi mixes; thatโs neat.
Iโm now having to water as family is travelling, and it reminds me how exhausting gardening can be. Hang in there!
Update: [asking here because Iโve blocked Twitter (and a lot of other apps) from my phone during work hours to relieve stress ๐ ] are you planning to participate in

Date: 2023-06-29 02:04 am (UTC)I hope you enjoy the Intoabar fic if you get to read it! It's a story about sibling expectations
The lo-fi mixes are relatively new. For a limited time last year they streamed a mix of all johnnys songs. But now it seems like they're going to start uploading videos by group since the stream is over. I like the hsj one more than I expected
Gardening takes up so much energy. Good luck on your watering tasks!
I'd not heard of the sunshine challenge but I just poked around and it looks kinda like snowflake challenge (which I missed this year). So I think I might check it out and hopefully participate a little! (And speaking of challenges... I've been meaning to message you about fandoms/ideas for pod_together ๐ )

Date: 2023-06-30 07:32 pm (UTC)I sure I will enjoy it! (Iโm adding it to the things Iโve written on my hand to remember because my brain is spilling over these last few days ๐ญ)
Oh Iโm glad then that theyโre uploading the mixes!
Thank you! Iโm persevering!
Sunshine is a little more relaxing because itโs only 7 prompts and theyโre not so much activities/journalling prompts as just a thematic prompt.
Looking forward to pod_together!

Date: 2023-07-01 12:26 pm (UTC)Seven prompts for sunshine seems doable for me. I peeked at last year's prompts and comments so I could get a feel for it, and now I have ideas for how to participate this year!
Cheers to pod_together!

Date: 2023-07-01 05:00 pm (UTC)Iโve sometimes joked I should get lines and ticky boxes tattooed on my hand to make it easier ๐
Cheers for ideas! Last year I did (but didnโt manage to finish) acrostic playlists (the hassle was posting so thatโs why I failed sadness) but I might go back to drabbles and combine with shiritori and other drabble comms.

Date: 2023-07-02 02:37 am (UTC)Last year's idea sounds cool! But drabbles this time is good too. I've got a rambly headcanon to post for the first prompt but idk yet what I'll do for the rest
