Weekly summary: June 4 - June 10, 2023
Jun. 11th, 2023 03:25 pmA few nights of bad sleep really threw me for a loop this past week, so there's not too much to summarize in today's post. But something is better than nothing, so let's get to it:
Episode 8 of Ousasa aired, and it was okay, but not the most compelling episode of the series. Tougou and Ayaka spend most of the episode on the outs, but finally make up by the end. But the main plot points revolved around Tougou's mom and the revelation that she has a long lost son that she's never kept in touch with. She's less than thrilled to meet him in this episode.
Yikes! If this series wasn't already bordering on soap opera territory, it's certainly there now 😂 only two more episodes left! What else could possibly happen??
It was a quiet week for most things I keep up with except in music, because several of my favorite bands released some new music videos.
My favorite this week was definitely "Red Birthmark" by Aina the End. This song is being used as the ending for season two of G-witch, so it was already out before, but now it has a music video too!
For some background, Aina the End is a member of BiSH, but she does a lot of solo stuff too. And I really like her songs because she's got a really powerful, lovely voice. But her music videos are always so strange 😂 she also does a lot of her own dance choreography, and Aina's dance style can be summed up as... uh, shall we say, evocative writhing? 😂
Anyway, all this to say that this new video is exactly Aina's style and it fits quite well with the sapphic vibes of G-witch. I enjoyed it! (There's no credit for the other dancer in this video but the internet tells me it's Yamada Aoi? I'm not familiar with her, but she did well here)
Gacharic Spin is back with "replica," another track off their new album. This one is a little more low-key than "Kachi-Kachi Yama" from a few weeks ago, but it's still nice. There are English subtitles available for this song!
Trident is also back with a new song. I can't remember if I've mentioned them before, but I like their style! (They used to play under the name Girls Rock Band Kakumei, but rebranded a few years back. I like their music better since then honestly.) Anyway, "repaint" was fun to listen to, but I dislike the camera work in the video. Oh well!
Lastly, youtube kindly reminded me about Mucc again as they released a new single this week called "99." Not entirely sure I enjoyed it, but I was also distracted when I first listened, so I need to find time to listen again.
Other than music, I don't have much else to share. Haven't had the time or energy for much reading and writing, but hopefully I'll be back on track soon. At least, the garden is still looking relatively nice right now with several plants blooming. Not much longer before I start getting some vegetables hopefully.
The waiting is always the hardest part!
Wishing everyone a restful week ahead 😊
