alchemicinkCan't remember if I mentioned it in my last summary post, but I recently started a rewatch of Kamen Rider Kuuga! I really wanted to see it all again because I binged three-quarters of the series back in 2023 right before I got sick, then took a break for over a year, and then finally watched the last quarter of episodes a few months ago. (I needed a solid refresher, I think)
This series is still so good! I'm only 12 episodes into my rewatch, but it remains a top favorite.
Anyway, I'm too Head Empty now for any deep thoughts about Kuuga at the moment, but here are a few fun observations instead (probably spoilery if you haven't seen it?)
This morning I was watching an episode as I got ready for work, and Minori shows up in it to say that it's Godai's birthday. Then the camera cuts to the calendar, showing it's March 18. And I was like "ahhhh that's today!!"
What a fun coincidence 😊

Ichijou is one of my favorite characters of all time. I love how he spends a grand total of two episodes being like "Godai, you shouldn't get involved in this" and then flips to being Ride or Die for him for the rest of the series. We love a supportive partner!
Also, rewatching the earliest episodes reminded me that Ichijou has RIBS OF STEEL. Like seriously, how does he function after being thrown around so much!
(I'm gonna end up writing some whump after this rewatch, aren't I?)

I'd forgotten all about how Tsubaki was introduced, so it was really funny to me that Ichijou described him as an old friend from high school who can keep a secret.
What secrets of Ichijou's is he keeping, huh 👀ðŸ¤
Also, just seeing the two of them as friends is really funny because you have Straight-laced Serious Cop and Freaky Medical Examiner who says things like "I wanna dissect this guy" 😂 What a duo

I love how all the Grongi in human form look like they've just spent the WILDEST night out clubbing and now are just wandering around, trying to figure out how to get home. Stellar design choice tbh. All of them looking so silly juxtaposes perfectly with how terrifying and dangerous they are.
Also, it's so funny to me all the weird places they hang out at in these early episodes. There's like two episodes where they're at an aquarium, and like, it's never acknowledged or mentioned again. HOW DID THEY GET IN THERE? HOW DID NO ONE NOTICE THEM?
I love it. I want to interview whoever picks out toku location shoots.

I didn't remember that one episode where Ichijou briefly trains Godai in kendo but you can bet I made a note for a future fic idea 😂🤠I could have watched a full episode of them just in kendo gear lmao

Anyway, that's it. I just finished the first episodes with Kanzaki sensei, and if I think about them too much, I may cry. (Episode 12 is one of the best. I love it). So that's all my thoughts for tonight. More soon probably!!
