Weekly summary: Aug. 11 - Aug. 17, 2024

Started writing this around 4 a.m. because the universe decided I'm not allowed to enjoy sleep anymore or something 🙄 (thankfully, I did go back to sleep at some point)

Nevertheless, we persist. Onto the weekly summary:

I have no music to share this week, but I do have a bit of music news. Another member of hsj got married 🥳 Hikaru married a non-celeb, and apparently they've been together for years, so that's really lovely!

Most of the fandom was positive about it (same as they were when Daiki announced his marriage a few months ago). But there were a few people I saw who complained that the marriages must be the reason why the group hasn't released a new album/single/etc this year yet... which is just a ridiculous thing to assume??? And also, so rude to assume that these guys must cater to the fans even in their personal business!!

The rampant parasocial relationships in hsj fandom really stress me out, so this week has been a fun reminder of why I don't interact with the fandom anymore 😒 I just follow their news from a distance and vibe in peace

I picked up my rewatch of Star Trek Voyager again. (It’s only been a year break haha). I'm in early season two still and quickly remembering that all my favorite episodes this season are not until the second half of the season 😂

B'Elanna, my absolute fave, has a lot of nice moments though ♡

I've also been rewatching Gundam IBO again. Season one is back on the official GundamInfo YouTube, so if anyone wants to check it out too, here's a great opportunity to watch for free! It's available dubbed (my personal preference) and subbed, and I assume in multiple countries. (I don't know how to check if it's region-locked)

Also, if you're curious but hesitant, you don't need any prior Gundam knowledge to watch. It's an AU. And season one wraps up nicely as a good standalone, just in case you don't want to watch the more depressing season two.

Speaking of IBO, I started writing a little pre-canon thing about Mikazuki and Orga for shiritori this week. Check it out here. I'm hopefully gonna finish it soon!

I also wrote another thing for femslashfete. This time it was a 23.5 fic. The first time I've written Aylin/Luna. It's really cute 🥰

I've started writing some treats for a flash exchange that are due soon, so that's my plan for the rest of the day.

I'm doing a terrible job of "take a writing break in August" right now 😂

Ultraman Arc was a recap episode this week, so that's fine. I'm excited about the preview for the next episode! Also, more of Ishido's diary has been translated here

I still keep finding so many good Arc fan art on Twitter, so I really need to make a Tokurecs post soon 😂

Lastly, some irl fun!

We had our first local fan convention here on Saturday! There's nothing else like it in this part of the state, so it was really cool to not have to drive 2+ hours to attend 😅

An acquaintance of mine who is a member of Hollywood's Director's Guild put together the event with her local nonprofit group. So she was able to bring in some actors (most of whom are from North Carolina!!) to attend as guests. I attended (technically) for my job, so I got the chance to interview most of the guests. That was fun!

There, of course, was also a cosplay contest. My favorite part of the day! They had a kids division and adult division, and both had so many cool cosplays. I took so many photos 🤩 such a variety of cosplays! Lots of anime and Marvel that I recognized, but also some deep cuts too I was impressed with.

I'm excited for next year's event too!
