Wrapping up the last week of the year! I didn't do much other than some writing and reading. But it was a nice time.

Let's get to the summary:

I rewatched Tokyo Godfathers on Christmas Eve, which is fitting, considering that the movie takes place on Christmas Eve.

If you've never seen it before, it's about three homeless people who find an abandoned baby and then spend the night trying to find the family. It's a delightfully wild ride! And is directed by Satoshi Kon.

I watched it on YouTube, but it's also available on Tubi. Highly recommend everyone check it out at least once!

Speaking of Christmas, my family and I had a good time celebrating together. I don't care at all about the gift-giving aspect of the holiday, but I do enjoy getting to hang out with just the four of us at home. We ate a lot, took some naps, watched basketball, and that sort of stuff.

I also finished up my Christmas fics this week. That "spending time together" theme really shines through all of them. (It's also really apparent that Christmas decorations are my other favorite thing about the holiday 😂)

I posted them all to my Dreamwidth, and I'm too lazy right now to grab all the links again. But if it's easier, they're all included in my ao3 holiday fic collection (along with previous years too)

A handful of fics recs that I enjoyed reading:

This seromina from last month's pbnha round was lovely. It's a nice little rare pair.

And some more YGO fics: this one where Malik gets his life back on track by taking a job for Kaiba. And then this fascinating AU where Atem is haunting the house Yugi moves into. And lastly, this absolutely hysterical fic where everyone gets trapped in Kaiba's mansion.

Signal boosting a few things:

Nominations are open for [community profile] seasonsofdrabbles and sign-ups will be soon too. I think I'm gonna skip this round because I'll be really busy with work, but I totally recommend the event to people who like writing drabbles.

Gifting is still open for [community profile] fandomtrees until Jan. 10. There's a handy dandy spreadsheet to let people know who still needs gifts. I'm gonna work on mine all this week!

And I'm very excited to participate in [community profile] snowflake_challenge for the first time! I've lurked before and it seems fun. I want to meet more people here on Dreamwidth!

Lastly, just a brief reflection on 2023:

The weirdest thing is that I'm ending the year with two fewer organs than I started with 😂 but seriously, being sick for two months and needing surgery was definitely the most memorable part of the year. It wasn't a fun experience but I did learn a lot.

On the whole, I've been in a better mental headspace than usual, and I think using Dreamwidth more has helped with that. I've never felt very welcome in fandom spaces (thanks social anxiety), but I've enjoyed exploring around here and getting to talk to a few different people. So hopefully next year will be even better!

2023 was a good year for nostalgia. I had fun with my Power Rangers in Space rewatch (which inspired me to start digging into Toku stuff). I also rewatched some old anime I loved back in high school (which inspired me to look for other series I've never seen before). And I reignited my love for Star Trek by checking out some of the newer series and rewatching the older ones again.

Can't wait to see what I'll stumble upon in 2024!

Wishing everyone a wonderful week ahead! And a truly spectacular new year!
