I survived the work week! The annual magazine at work is always a gauntlet to get through, but I made it through the worst of it. Exhausted, but I made it! I award myself a gold star for effort lol

Let's go talk about more fun things now!

We're almost to the end of season 3 of Miss Scarlet and the Duke. I'm not too fond of the current storyline of "William decides it's a good idea to date Eliza's childhood bully" but he's never been great at interpersonal relationships, so I'm not actually surprised. One thing I did enjoy about episode 5, however, is that it reminded me how good Kate Phillips and Stuart Martin are at nonverbal acting. The sighs. The eye contact (or lack thereof). They're great at conveying much more than the dialogue written in the script. Kudos to them for that!

I hope the season finale turns out well!

I'm still watching Power Rangers in Space, though I didn't get through many episodes this week due to exhaustion. I managed to finish up the Psycho Rangers arc though, and that made me realize a fun but completely arbitrary connection between this series and the English dub of Bleach (which didn't begin airing until 2006).

I didn't realize before checking the PRiS wiki, but Wally Wingert provides the voice of Psycho Blue. (His evil cackles are the best of all the Psychos tbh) In the Bleach dub, he voices Abarai Renji, one of my personal favorites lol. But Wingert isn't the only name that appears in the credits for both series!

As I mentioned last week, Johnny Yong Bosch guest-starred in one PRiS episode. In Bleach, of course, he's the voice of the main character Kurosaki Ichigo.

Then there's Derek Stephen Prince, who voices the recurring monster Elgar on PRiS and Ishida Uryu on Bleach. And Lex Lang provides the voice for Ecliptor in PRiS and Omaeda in Bleach. (I'd honestly forgotten who Omaeda was at first because there are too many dang characters in Bleach! I can't be expected to remember all their names!)

EDIT: I forgot Wendee Lee! She voices Alpha in PRiS and Yoroichi (and a few others) in Bleach. In my defense...... Wendee is in so many things it's hard to keep track

Anyway, I just like finding weird connections with things, and I think it's fun when actors you recognize from one series appear in another series too. I didn't do a thorough check of all the voice actors on PRiS, so there may be even more coincidental connections between the two unrelated series.

In writing news, I signed up for another round of Planet BNHA this week! The theme ("hearts, diamonds, clubs, spades") seemed too much fun to pass up. So despite being drained from work, I'm working on a fic for this round that I think is gonna turn out well. But more on that later this month after reveals~!

Because I've been so busy writing and working this week, I haven't had a chance to read much. But I did sneak in a moment long enough to read this sweet little tdbk fic by Meg. I totally recommend checking out all the little fics in that series too!

It was another relatively quiet week for YouTube recommendations, so I don't have a lot of music to share this time.

Hagane released a new PV from their most recent album. YouTube rec'd this group to me a few months ago, and I liked them, but then promptly forgot all about them. This song feels similar, in that I enjoy it while listening but then forget everything about how it sounds immediately afterwards. Maybe my brain's just too tired for metal right now...

I don't know why, but YouTube rec'd me this piano arrangement of Barricades from one of the Attack on Titan soundtracks (which are all really entertaining to listen to and I like better than the actual series). I do love listening to piano covers, and this one just made me wish I had the skills to play it. (I took 10 years of piano lessons but my skills have always remained at a barely intermediate level 😭)

It's Super Bowl weekend, and my team was really abysmally bad this year, so they aren't playing. Subsequently, I don't really care who wins! But this is the first year that two Black quarterbacks are going to be facing off against each other, and this episode of the ESPN Daily podcast breaks down what that means. Host of the podcast, Pablo Torre, had a great interview with former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III, and I think it’s a good thought-provoking discussion about race, even for people who don't follow sports.

Lastly, I spent a little bit of Saturday watching a few old Stargate SG-1 episodes (the beginning of season 2, to be specific). Honestly, I've watched this series so many times that I can quote a good chunk of every episode, and yet, the humorous parts are still SO FUNNY to me. There's a part in the season 2 premiere where things are pretty dire for the team and they're making plans to blow up the spaceship they're on, and Jack just goes "I suppose now's the time for me to say something profound." There's a long awkward pause, and then he continues with "...Nothing comes to mind. Let's go."

It's just a great bit of levity during a serious moment, and typing it up doesn't do it justice at all. Richard Dean Anderson is a master at line delivery. The moment is perfectly in character for Col. Jack O'Neill.

Anyway, as I was watching yesterday, it occurred to me that a great deal of my own sense of humor was influenced by the snark and banter of this series. Strange how that works out, huh?

That's all for this week's summary. I might have a little more time this coming week, so maybe I'll get to delve back into some more things (like my paused reread of Fruits Basket, or maybe I'll finally FINALLY sit down to watch The Witch from Mercury). We shall see. Hope everyone has a lovely week!

Glad you made it through the magazine week!!

I’m not familiar with the show but I felt so much delight reading your phrasing “…he's never been great at interpersonal relationships, so I'm not actually surprised.” Somehow this applies to so many characters.

It’s really cool that they had that face off. (I don’t know sports terminology so I’m sure I’ve said this all wrong 😂😭) I get the little monthly updates from the post here about different stamp series, and I’ve learned about some intersections of sports and race/ethnicity/culture in history that I’d never heard of; it’s really interesting. (Why didn’t we have *that* in history class.)

It might be hard to describe, but I feel like I understood what you meant about the humour!

Hope you have a good week!

It definitely is! Ahh the schadenfreude.

I feel like presenting high school history through the lens of sports (at least as an option for the history track) might be much more engaging and successful for many students.
