Weekly summary: Aug. 17 - Aug. 23, 2025
Aug. 24th, 2025 08:05 amAnother week down. I got some stuff done, but it's been a bit of a struggle 😩 such is life.
Here are the things to share for this summary:
I saved this NPR article because it had a few easy recipe ideas in it. I have been in a bit of a cooking rut lately, and need some inspiration for new recipes 😅 (maybe I should start watching cooking videos on YouTube again)
***
I linked a podcast episode of The Broadside here a few weeks ago, and I've been listening to it ever since. It's just a bunch of random stories about North Carolina, so I enjoy it. I really liked the one about Venus fly traps!
***
Music stuff!
Just one Band Maid video: a concert version of Ready to Rock
***
Fic/fandom stuff!
tokufemslash is doing a prompt meme now through the end of October! (Thank you
linky!) I will be throwing in some prompts soon, but I don't expect anyone to write for my ships 😅 I will end up filling my own prompts myself when my brain is less mush 😂
Also, I'm excited to hear that toku shipping week will be happening next year 🥳
I finished my
seasonsofdrabbles assignment this week. I knew exactly what I wanted to write but my brain did NOT want to write at all this week 😭 I'm not sure I'm gonna get to write any treats this time. But at least I'm happy with how the assignment fic turned out!
Signups are currently open for
fandomgiftbasket. I gotta figure out what I wanna request this year.

Offline life has been uneventful. The most exciting thing this week was the hurricane passing by off the coast. It stayed well offshore, but we still had a cloudy breezy day where I live when it passed by, which is a testament to just how stupid big the storm was. If the rest of the hurricanes this season stayed offshore too, that would be great.
I have to work this afternoon 😒 which I'm not looking forward to. It'll be fine but that's my whole afternoon gone. At least it's not extremely hot today (the event is outdoors)
And that's it. Wishing everyone a lovely week ahead!

Date: 2025-08-25 05:54 pm (UTC)I don’t know if you’ve been affected, but it seemed like people who write in some more visible fandoms have been getting a lot more spam comments and bot comments (even some bot comments that are masquerading as mean comments, sometimes even telling people to delete their fics; it’s really awful!). I hope you haven’t gotten any like that, but if you have, *sends all the hugs*
Not knowing what to cook is always such a hurdle sigh. Lately I’ve been having rice porridge for breakfast lately which has been a nice change up.
Podcasts! My brain is usually NO but I’ve been procrastinating on listening to a Martha Wells audiobook (not Murderbot, thus the procrastination) so I ended up finally being able to dig into fic clique, a fun podcast where three fans (who happen to be fannish acquaintances, which is nice) talk about three fics they’ve all three read that fortnight.
(I’m maaaybe plotting a third attempt at a podfic podcast with a few other people; we’ll see if that comes to fruition. Third because there are two other podfic podcasts; auralphonic that existed in the late 2010s, and behind the pod which was a fest-style podcast where people submitted episodes for a deadline, but it didn’t have an rss etc.)
Cheers for finishing the drabble assignment even if it wasn’t what you were aiming for ♡
I’m glad the hurricane passed you by; fingers crossed for the other ones this season!
I hope the weekend afternoon work wasn’t too draining!! Having to work on the weekend always feels like it cuts into necessary rest time for the week 😭💕

Date: 2025-08-26 01:27 am (UTC)Oh yes I'm unfortunately aware of the spam/bot comments 😩 I haven't got a mean one yet, but just yesterday I got one trying to get me to message them for an art commission. It's very annoying
Rice porridge sounds good for breakfast! I wish I had more time to cook in the mornings (but sometimes I just cook breakfast for dinner instead lol)
Fic clique sounds like a fun podcast. I should look it up!
(Oooh let me know if your podfic podcast comes to fruition 👀)
I still have some time to write treats but I think my brain's just not in drabble mode right now.
Fingers crossed for no hurricanes!!
While frustrating that weekend work cut into my rest time, the event itself wasn't too bad. A local organization got funding for some historical markers, and I always find those fascinating to cover. (But it was tiring to be around a lot of people when I wanted to be alone at home lol)

I'm also glad the hurricane passed you by, I'm hoping any other ones will follow suit!

Date: 2025-08-26 01:33 am (UTC)Yeah, my seasonsofdrabbles assignment was great! My brain was just so tired at the time 😭. At least there's still some time left to write treats if we can. But I keep telling myself I can always write treats during the next round instead if it doesn't happen this time 😊
Crossing my fingers so hard for no more hurricanes this season!!
