Weekly summary: May 18 - May 24, 2025

alchemicinkBusy first half of the week and a fantastic second half of the week! (I had two vacation days and then a day trip to my annual anime convention) So I'm tired but in a good mood 🥰
Let's get to it:
Did a little bit of reading this week (realized I had this year's Candy Hearts exchange collection still open in my tabs lol). So a few DS9 recs (two of which are actually crossovers 😂)
Firstly, this Lower Decks/DS9 fic featuring time travel shenanigans and Mariner/Jadzia. Then I enjoyed this little Garak/Bashir fic about books. The last book choice is very funny. And lastly, a hysterically good crossover where Columbo is a holosuite program Garak enjoys 😂 I don't know how else to explain it. It's just funny!

Music stuff!
YouTube finally rec'd me something good this week: here is a cool shamisen and cello cover of Megalovania. (I know nothing about Undertale except for this song, and I love every cover I find of it)
Since I was listening to TMR's side band Abingdon Boys School last week, I decided to look up my favorite song from them: Blade Chord. I just love the guitar riff for this one.
And speaking of TMR, he also released a new song this week: Heroes

I shared an article about the final Ultraman Arc stage greeting stuff last week, but this week I stumbled across a video of part of it. It includes Shu wearing the SKIP jacket and also a few other fun things.
I gotta update my resource post sometime soon 😅

I had planned to do more writing on my vacation, but my brain said no. So I'm not gonna push it. I have no impending deadlines right now anyway, and a few more finished fics in the stockpile I can post whenever I want. (I gotta stop sitting on my hanami fics 😅 it's almost summer now lmao)

Watched a few things this week! Finished up my rewatch of Boy Meets World season 1. I haven't started on season 2 yet because I think I might write a little mini review for season 1 first. Maybe!
I also binge-watched another (not great) Japanese BL series on Tubi. It's called Candy Color Paradox (or Ameiro Paradox, if you're going with the Japanese title). It's about a serious tabloid reporter and a laid-back photographer who are paired up to work together. It wasn't a bad show and I was pleasantly surprised that they actually kissed more than once, but it also wasn't anything extremely stellar either.
I also watched the most recent episode of Gozyuger this morning and have spent a good chunk of the day since then thinking about a Ryuugi and Shoko pre-canon fic that I will never write 😂

Lastly, Animazement!
This was my 15th year going, and I had a good time, even if I could only go for one day. (But ughhh what a long day. I got up at 5:30 am yesterday and didn't get back home until about midnight)
I hope to write a con recap post this week (not like last year where I wrote 90 percent of it and then never finished or posted it). I attended some really interesting fan panels I wanna talk about. And this year's Masquerade was so much better than previous ones!

Date: 2025-05-26 06:17 pm (UTC)I think I maybe started Ameiro Paradox but it didn’t resonate. I don’t know why, but I feel like I generally have trouble with Japanese dramas these days and it’s too bad. (Though Old fashioned Cupcake really does seem good! I just need to get back to it.) But, on the other hand, I really enjoyed Arc, and now I started Gotchard and it’s so good! Maybe my angle with toku is that it has to lean into the whole magical girl thing for me 😂💕
Thinking of dramas that are easy to access, though, a friend recommended Secrets Happened on the Litchi Island to me and promised a happy ending, and that’s all on YouTube officially (the playlist is in reverse order though, unfortunately). It’s hardsubbed, and the subs are a little small 😭 but it’s so lovely I haven’t minded even when I have to rewind a bit to catch them. I think it’s technically called an “art film” serialized in short episodes.
I have noticed though, even when something is all available, I think I appreciate it more if I watch episodes spaced out by days? So I think that’ll be my approach now in general.
I’m curious about the fan panels for sure!

Date: 2025-05-27 02:19 am (UTC)Maybe it's because the lead in Ameiro Paradox is annoying 😂 (I'm kidding! Mostly!) But yeah, there are some dramas that just don't click for some reason. As for toku, the magical girl aspect IS very fun, so I can agree with you there 😁

That's valid! Sometimes I like to spread out my viewing of a show as well too. Gives me more time to think about the characters. (And then sometimes I get sucked in and can't stop 😅)
Will definitely give a detailed report of the panels I attended!
