I've been trying to think of the best way to describe Kanzaki Shiro. Mostly because he's so creepy that I laugh every time he appears.
Like, I know he's probably supposed to be intimidating. But he just looks like that one weird guy you probably knew in high school.
And other than that description, the only other thing I could think of is that he's sorta like a guy recruiting for a cult. For most people, they're gonna be like "get away creep" but the desperate ones get swept up in his sales pitch.
Yes, maybe I'm saying that the Rider fight is like a cult 🤔 So even though Kanzaki's weird emo kid vibe is funny to me, I do think it's pretty effective too.
Anyway, more spoilery (but less serious) thoughts about Kamen Rider Ryuki episodes 23-28 under the cut:
I can't believe I spent a few paragraphs of my last Ryuki post talking about how much I liked the dynamic Tezuka brought to the party, AND THEN HE DIED IN THE NEXT EPISODE I WATCHED ðŸ˜
RIP. I was really starting to like him. His stingray motif is still my favorite Rider design so far.
(Mr. Psychopath did not deserve his stingray monster!!)
Meanwhile, the Ore Journal staff continues to be bad at journalism 😂
I can't believe it took until episode 24 before Editor reminded Reiko that journalists aren't cops!! You should have told her that in episode one!! I worry about her a lot 😅
Also, there was a funny bit where Editor is like "Reiko and Shinji would never betray me for another newspaper" and I was like "of course not! They are not even doing journalist things now!" 😂 I'm pretty sure Shinji doesn't remember he's employed half the time (but, hey, he's kinda busy trying to rescue dudes from a cult)
I would be remiss if I didn't mention Mr. Psychopath once more, as this stretch of episodes included a bit about his past. For a moment, they tried to make him seem sympathetic. But, of course, then he killed his brother so... I don't feel bad calling him Mr. Psychopath. (Still cannot remember his actual name)
Overall, Ryuki continues to be a lot of fun. There are plenty of serious moments, of course, but I enjoy the lighthearted bits that are included too. (Like Shinji, covered in flour, making gyoza for Kitaoka, or the kid in episode 27 bugging Ren). They never felt out of place.
And I'm finally at a point where I'm curious again about what happened in the Kanzaki siblings' past. That old painting in episode 28 clearly was very important to Kanzaki Shiro.
Still a lot of unanswered questions 🤔 I can't wait to watch more!
My previous rambly Ryuki thoughts: Episodes 1-4, Episodes 5-13, and Episodes 14-22
