Weekly summary: May 11 - May 17, 2025
May. 18th, 2025 04:23 pmThis weekend flew by so fast 😵💫 or it felt like it because I've been trying to catch up on sleep. (Was not very successful 😂)
But I do have more things to share this time:
I posted a new
tokuficathon fill. This one was a silly Gozyuger fic. I was very happy with how it turned out!
I was going to post the other finished fill I have too, but then I remembered
seasonsofdrabbles was happening and so I decided I'd wait until later this coming week.
Speaking of seasonsofdrabbles tho, fic reveals were yesterday. I was blown away by how many gifts I received 🥹 They were all so good! I will make a separate post after author reveals to share my gifts, my fics, and other recs (I haven't had time to read anything other than my gifts yet). For now, I'll just link to the collection sorted by fandoms. Check it out!!

I'm continuing my little "Twitter thoughts on Dreamwidth" posts. I've liked doing them so far. It's helped me cut down on my Twitter use even more than before.
My two mini posts this week were about crossovers and some thoughts on Gozyuger.
I'm really loving Gozyuger so far, and I can't wait to watch the latest episode 🤩
***
Some Star Trek news this week:
Strange New Worlds finally (FINALLY) has a premiere date for season 3. It'll be July 17. I still haven't seen season 2 yet, so I'm hoping Paramount will put it up on YouTube temporarily like they did with season 1 🤞
In bad Star Trek news, Netflix is getting rid of Prodigy soon 😞 Which is a shame because once it's off Netflix, the only way people will be able to watch is via physical media. So if you were planning to check the series out on streaming, I'd do it soon!
***
I'm very slowly trying to get back to reading fic again, so I have one fic rec this week: a very funny SG-1 accidental marriage fic. It captures the SG-1 brand of humor so well.
***
Music stuff!
Actually I only have sad news to bring this time. Aldious announced on Twitter this week that they're going on "indefinite hiatus" (which honestly is basically a permanent hiatus). I sort of expected this since their drummer left in early 2024 and was never replaced, and they still never found a new permanent vocalist. So they were down to three people. But it's still sad to see it basically confirmed.
I'm hoping the ladies will end up in other bands in the future to continue with music. They're all pretty awesome.
***
In other kinda downer news (for me really, not the news itself), the Ultraman Arc cast wrapped up the end of their promotional tour this week and "passed the baton" to the cast of Ultraman Omega.
Here's an article (in Japanese) about the event. I do believe it contains an Arc movie spoiler, so beware, but mostly I'm just linking this because it contains a photo of Shu wearing a SKIP jacket, which is really cute. (I may or may not have to write fic about this now lmao)
***
Lastly, offline life continues to be uneventful. It was quite stormy here all week.
I did end up visiting my brother again yesterday, and we ended up rewatching more movies from our childhoods again 😂 This time it was the second and third Mighty Ducks movies and The Big Green.
They were surprisingly all as fun as we remembered!
And that's it! Wishing everyone a superb week ahead!

Date: 2025-05-19 03:07 am (UTC)That picture of Shu is so cute! I need to do fanart of that sometime. The con I'm going to is going to have a screening of the arc movie there, so I'm excited to see it there. :D I'm curious about omega, but I will miss these guys.

Date: 2025-05-19 04:41 pm (UTC)Oh I'd love to see your take on Shu with the SKIP jacket! Your art is always so nice 🥰 So exciting that you will see the movie soon 👀 would love to hear your thoughts on it! (It's so good!) I'm excited about Omega but I'm gonna have to write more fic to fill the Arc void 😅

Date: 2025-05-21 07:16 pm (UTC)Shu wearing a SKIP jacket is so cute! I think because Arc was my first, I don’t know…I’ve been watching tidbits of Z with nibling but it’s not quite the same.
I already cheered in a different reply but extra cheers about Twitter thoughts on Dreamwidth continuing! And I get what you mean about Twitter use; last year I was cross posting from mastodon & bluesky to Dreamwidth but this year I feel like my “sometimes I just want to share words” impulse is nicely quenched by Dreamwidth. ♡
That’s sad about Aldious; I wish them well as you said.
I hope it’s not too stormy; wishing you safe weather!
Have you ever watched Kamen Rider Gotchard? I randomly realized the main (?) character is acted by someone who was recently in a BL drama that everyone was raving about (my double take moment was so funny) so I looked a bit more and it seems kind of interesting? Of course, I really know nothing about all of it 😅

Date: 2025-05-22 04:02 am (UTC)Z is on my list to watch, so I don't know how it is. But I do think there's something special about the first series in a franchise you watch. So maybe that's it.
I agree! Dreamwidth just has a different feel than the others. I've been wanting to post more here anyway, so it's definitely been nice.
Today seems to have been the last storm day for a while, so we made it through! I'm looking forward to some sunshine again 🥰
I haven't watched Gotchard yet but I've heard so many good things about it from

Date: 2025-05-23 11:45 pm (UTC)Yeah, I think part of it is definitely that magical first-ness!
I’m glad Dreamwidth is settling in a bit for you! I remember that it took me a while to get the hang of it.
Cheers for sunshine!
Yes, the alchemy bit sounds like a fun angle!! I may gave already messaged Linky about how to watch 😂
I probably haven’t been keeping up with Japanese dramas enough lately (I really am many years out of the loop, though I’ve gotten back in a tiny bit with or two BLs); I had no idea that crossover of actors is maybe a thing. It was Our Youth, which I really do need to watch sometime.

Date: 2025-05-24 07:22 pm (UTC)There's definitely a bit of a learning curve with Dreamwidth, but it's fun now that I've gotten the hang of it!
Awesome! Hope you enjoy! It's definitely on my list to watch, but I wanted to check out a few older Kamen Rider series first
Every time I check out a Japanese BL series, I end up looking up the actors and at least one has been in toku before 😂 (but usually one I haven't seen yet lmao) I'll have to keep my eyes out for Our Youth if it pops up on the streaming services I use

Date: 2025-05-26 07:18 pm (UTC)Oh, that’s unfortunate! The cropping is pretty tricky. There are probably other tools, but I just happen to be more familiar with canva 😅 and the free level I think should be totally fine for this type of basic work. (I think if you create a project that’s 100 px by 100 px then you should be able to import the desired photo and zoom in/out and move around as you prefer).
Yes, definitely! I think the hardest part was figuring out where to talk to people, because when I really started with interacting with fandom people were on LiveJournal & Twitter, and those people didn’t really move to Dreamwidth.
I watched the first two episodes of Gotchard and am really liking it! I think I mentioned this in a different comment (I’m getting all confused now 😂) but maybe I like the “magical girl” angle ones.
That’s so funny about the overlap! I should look them up too 😂
I’m really glad that Japanese stuff is starting to be easier to find, but on the flipside it’s kind of a choice to go down the Asian media path, because I use a whole subset of streaming platforms that most people here don’t. So maybe it’s just as well that I don’t really watch English stuff! I hope Our Yourh does show up for you eventually! And I’m not sure if this in particular is on there, but I think Viki has some free shows, and IQIYI and WeTV (I think it’s Tencent Video or something like that in the United States) maybe do as well. 🤔

Date: 2025-05-27 02:27 am (UTC)Totally agree! I wish I could have convinced more of my friends to hop over here to DW, but alas. At least I'm finding more places to chat (or lurk when I'm tired) these days
I'm glad you're enjoying Gotchard so far!!
I do have Viki! They have some series for free, definitely. (But I don't use it often because I keep forgetting about it). I need to check out those other services. I've heard of IQIYI but assumed it wasn't free. Definitely need to check into that if I can!
