Hi! I'm Holly! (she/her) Welcome to my journal!

Mostly, I like to do a lot of writing, ranging from fanfic (check out my ao3 account here) to recaps, reviews, and summaries of things I really enjoy (visit my website for older reviews and recaps here, though I'm no longer updating the site).

I generally like any kind of Japanese media I can get my hands on. But a few fandoms I'm perennially interested in include Avatar the Last Airbender, Fullmetal Alchemist, My Hero Academia, Star Trek Voyager (and other 90s Trek series), Stargate SG-1, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Yu Yu Hakusho. I'm also into a few Gundam series (namely IBO and G-witch), and my current interest is Tokusatsu. But you'll probably find me rambling about plenty of other series/movies/etc around here too. Check out the tags if you're looking for something specific!

I'm also a longtime listener of Japanese music. I started off enjoying opening and ending themes from different anime back when I was in high school, and I branched out from there. I like anything from old visual kei to boy bands to all-girl j-metal bands.

Hi, there! It's nice to meet you - the anime and music connection sounds interesting. The cream of the crop approach to each group sounds eminently reasonable. I wiki'd kei and it's a fashion term? *is curious*

Hi! Nice to meet you 😊 yeah, I enjoyed the openings to anime so much that I got sucked into the whole Japanese music scene 😅 I can totally explain a little more about visual kei! Kei sorta translates to "style", so visual kei bands (usually from the 80s-00s ish) were focused not only on their music but also how they presented themselves onstage. A lot of the groups were known for heavy makeup, elaborate outfits, and interesting hairstyles, etc. No performing in jeans and a t-shirt here 😁

Here are a couple of examples if you're interested in the look (but don't feel obligated to listen if you don't like the music!)
Nightmare was one of the first bands I was introduced to (thanks to Death Note). They're a little more subdued in their looks than other groups.
Versailles is my personal favorite. They often go for elegant fancy costumes!
But, in my opinion, nobody did visual kei better than Malice Mizer. They really committed to whatever usual look they were going for 😁

Versailles is amazing! *applause* It's the perfect look for anime, at least my limited understanding of it. It had the uniform look for the singer, the sort of European military jacket I've noticed in much fanartr; the guitar licks really rocked, too! Thanks for the link.

I am always up for new music ... for example, Tuvan throat singing like this wonderful clip offers great entertainment, to me.
