Weekly summary: Aug. 27 - Sept. 2, 2023

Another week has come and gone, and I'm still somewhat ill. But this week has had more good days than bad days at least! Small victories, yeah?
I do have a few things to share this week:
As I mentioned previously, our fic/podfic for Pod_Together was revealed this week. Ansa let me write a silly crossover between Star Trek Voyager and Avatar the Last Airbender, which was a lot of fun to come up with. I tried something new this year and made it an epistolary story, and I'm really proud of how it turned out. The podfic version is fantastic too of course, so give it a listen and give Ansa some kudos for doing a lovely job again this year.
Check it out: Close encounters of some kind

A few music videos to share this week:
HSJ's weekly video was the PV for Super Delicate, a single they first released back in 2012. Boy did I feel old watching this again lmao.
But Super Delicate is one of my favorite songs, and it was the theme for one of my favorite comedy dramas too ("Risou no Musuko", starring Yamada Ryosuke and featuring Nakajima Yuto, both of HSJ). The song is fun, but the music video is quite boring 😅 mostly I watch to laugh at the clothes they have to wear here. Yuto has knee-high boots?!
This week, the YouTube algorithm decided to recommend me a j-rock band I'd never heard of before: East of Eden with their song Evolve extended version
So when I looked them up, I realized I'd never heard of them because this is their debut song! They just arrived on the scene in August. Anyway, I enjoyed the song. It's not too often you find a rock band that prominently features a violin. I thought that was pretty cool.
Lastly, Paramount decided to share more song clips from the Star Trek Strange New Worlds musical episode. I still haven't watched it yet, but I appreciate the opportunity to check out the songs. There are several on YouTube right now, but Keep Us Connected is probably my favorite. Uhura can sing 🥰

Speaking of Paramount and Star Trek, they also temporarily shared season three of Lower Decks free on YouTube as well, as a promo for season four which starts this week. So I went back to my Star Trek watching roots and dived into season three without having seen the first two seasons 😂 I know a lot of people prefer starting shows from the very first episode, but actually I kinda enjoy jumping in at random points.
Luckily, the series isn't too confusing, so I had no trouble following the plot points of these episodes. It was a lot of fun to watch, and I was delighted by all the references to the 90s Trek shows.
Hopefully I get a way to watch the other seasons eventually too.

Because I was temporarily consumed by Star Trek again (I'm also slowly rewatching Voyager season two), I took a quick break from Kuuga and Timeranger. Honestly, I'm enjoying them so much that I didn't want to keep rushing through each show. I still want to write some stuff for both series! Maybe I'll feel well enough this week to start on that.
Otherwise, that's it for this summary. I've got plans to go watch the new live action One Piece with my brother today, so I've gotta get ready for that. Wishing everyone a lovely week ahead!
