Snowflake Challenge 2026 #5: wishes~!
Jan. 10th, 2026 12:31 pmDidn't get to do this one earlier thanks to working late yesterday π but hey, I have a few minutes to scribble this out now

Challenge #5
In your own space, create a list of at least three things you'd love to receive, a wishlist of sorts.
β Talk to me about characters from canons we have in common
I love hearing about why you love a character or what kinds of headcanons you have about them. Some fandoms I'm familiar with include Avatar the Last Airbender, Fullmetal Alchemist ('03 & Brotherhood), Star Trek Voyager (and TNG and DS9), Stargate SG-1, Yu-Gi-Oh (DM only), Yu Yu Hakusho, Fruits Basket, Ultraman Arc (and Blazar and Omega), Kamen Rider (Kuuga, Ryuki, Gavv, Zeztz, Amazon), My Hero Academia, NCISLA, Gundam (Iron-Blooded Orphans & G-witch), and Elementary. (You can also check my DW tags for more options!)
β Check out Ultraman Arc
I love this series so much, and it's easily accessible on YouTube, so I have to rec it! I would love more people to enjoy this. It's a short series (25 episodes) about using imagination to move forward in the wake of tragedy. It's also about connecting with people. AND it's also a fun sci-fi series about a giant guy fighting giant monsters π It contains multitudes, in my humble opinion
Japanese with English subtitles available here (The playlist starts with episode 25, so you'll have to jump to the bottom and go up)
English dub available here (this playlist is unfortunately still out of order) (I personally love the dub version)
You do NOT have to watch the special recap episodes.
The Ultraman Arc movie is also now available on Tubi (I haven't checked yet if it's dubbed or subbed)
I have a resource post I compiled last year with extra stuff about the series too (it needs to be updated)
β if you feel inspired to create something...
I'd happily enjoy drabbles or ficlets or art sketches for any of the fandoms I've mentioned in this post! (But please no NSFW content or major character death)
Thanks for checking out my wishlist! (Don't feel pressured to do any of them π )

Date: 2026-01-10 06:04 pm (UTC)I just watched Avatar the Last Airbender for the first time last year and absolutely loved it! I was just a little older than the target demographic when it first aired so it passed me by, and I kept hearing about this show but never paid too much attention, and then a YT creator I like kept talking about it so I decided to finally give it a chance and OMG so good! I love all of the characters, but I think my favorite character is Zuko because of how complex he is. He wants his father to love him so badly and he wants to make himself into someone his father will love and in the end he can't do it and has to choose another path π Him and Iroh together are amazing, especially that hug in the finale.
We actually share a few fandoms. I am obsessed with Star Trek and currently Will Riker owns my brain because he hits this perfect center of the Venn Diagram of hyper-competent, emotionally stable (I stan an emotionally intelligent king), and just the tiniest bit dorky (I know dorky isn't the word that usually comes to mind with Riker, but he has his awkward moments and they make me love him more). Sprinkle in just the dash of angst that comes from being a protagonist in a sci-fi show and he's my blorbo and I love him. I adore him and Troi both separately and especially together, but honestly there isn't a character on that show that I don't make heart eyes at.

Date: 2026-01-11 05:39 pm (UTC)Oh yes Riker is a fantastic character!! I love your description of him. He really is a mix of the best kinds of character traits (plus I love that in addition to all that, he also plays trombone. It's my favorite detail about his character π) I'm trying to pick out who my favorite TNG character is myself, but honestly, I love them all too. (Maybe it's Geordi a smidge ahead of everyone else? I do have a fondness for engineers)

Date: 2026-01-10 07:41 pm (UTC)(I also love how Jet's episode tackled the same thing, the theme of "don't harm innocents". By contrast, Katara blowing up the factory in The Painted Lady wasn't treated as "going too far", she was 100% justified because she saw how it was harming the village.)

Date: 2026-01-11 05:47 pm (UTC)Jet is fascinating too. Really, almost all of the "bad guys" are given an interesting degree of nuance. Sometimes their intentions are good but their methods are very bad.

Date: 2026-01-11 01:26 am (UTC)Ahhh I was actually going to write a lil thing about why I love Shouto in my journal as part of my Shouto birthday post but I blanked out because I never know the right words and I felt like I'd end up never posting if I thought about it too hard lmao
But yes!! Shouto is my favorite :"D I really love him because he starts as closed off, a bit arrogant but not too much, like he's just here to do his thing and that's to be number one. He doesn't want to give into what his father wants, but he also shares the same ambition. But he wants to do things on his own terms. Even after he started using his fire again, he makes it clear that it's his decision, and him being on speaking terms with his father again is because he gets something out of it. Throughout the show though, he's depicted as a kind person; not as idealistic as Deku, but kind in a more... down-to-earth way? He's so good with kids, even if the kids can be mean. He becomes an approachable hero later on who's popular on his own merit. Isn't that adorable? π Honestly I find him a rather complex character and I haven't written him properly yet because I'm always so afraid I'll mess it up :"D He's like, in a glass display case in my mind. My baby.
My Shouto headcanon is that he's a bit tech illiterate. He would probably get phished at least once in his life. I like it when he has this... gap moe thing going on. Good-looking, but an airhead. Competent in many places, a bit hopeless in others. Hahaha sorry this is so long but I hope you enjoyed that :"D

Date: 2026-01-11 06:00 pm (UTC)I love Shouto too. He has such a great character arc in the series. I actually love how angry and standoffish Early-roki is, but then he continues to grow over time into a kind and gentler person thanks to his friends and classmates π₯°
He's so good with kids, even if the kids can be mean.
This reminds me of how much I enjoy the remedial lessons arc with him and Bakugou π
I find Shouto difficult to write sometimes too π€π (though you'd think it'd get easier over time lol). I hope you're able to write him some day!
Tech illiterate Shouto!! What a fun headcanon, I totally agree with it. Everyone has to remind him not to reply to sketchy emails π€

Date: 2026-01-11 01:48 am (UTC)YGO!, Mai and Anzu, girls supporting girls
Anzu isn't as naive as Mai teases sher for being-- but she is overwhelmed with the excitement of visiting America. And her English could be better, Mai can tell by the friendly look she gives the American gentleman leaning into her space.
Mai drives her stiletto into the guy's toe, then leads Anzu away with an arm around her shoulders, leaving the man howling and cursing behind them.
"You heard what he said?" she asks. Anzu, face red with realization, nods. "Good. Next time," because she hates it but there will be a next time, "do just what I did."
YYH, Kuwabara and Kurama, guys supporting ghosts
Kurama becomes aware of the blur in his peripheral at the same time Kuwabara stands abruptly, swaying with the train car. When he makes for the door three stops before their own, Kurama follows.
He touches a hand to Kuwabara's elbow to bring him back and, when those staring eyes find his, asks softly, "Danger?"
Kuwabara swallows, shakes his head sharply, then goes on. Again, Kurama follows, aware of the presence behind them but no longer concerned.
"Here," he says two blocks later in front of an apartment building. The presence passes them like a breeze but Kurama surmises that isn't what makes Kuwabara lean into his side. "This is where..." He swallows again and, hands shoved into his pockets, stares hard at the ground. "She was just trying to go home."
Kurama doesn't ask. He reads the papers. Taking Kuwabara's arm again, he leads them back to the station.

Date: 2026-01-11 06:10 pm (UTC)I love Mai watching out for Anzu and giving her advice while they're traveling together. Mai was ready with that stiletto immediately! I love these two getting an opportunity to interact.
And I love Kuwabara and Kurama looking out for the ghost on the train. And then Kurama being able to support Kuwabara during the whole thing. (I always wished YYH did more with ghosts within the series, so I especially loved this one!)

Date: 2026-01-12 02:26 am (UTC)Mai is self-centered but she does look out for people she cares for and I think she's got a genuine "girl's girl" energy to her. I've always liked how quick she is to be protective of Anzu when hanging out with the group in Duelist Kingdom and it's always been interesting to me that Anzu is the first person she loses her memories of when dueling Malik.
Kurama and Kuwabara have... not my favorite friendship, necessarily, of the main four, because every combination has something going for it. But they seem to have the least complicated, friendliest friendship of the team and I love that for them. Also, saaame about wanting the series to do more with ghosts-- I mean, it's right there in the title, for crying out loud-- so I'm glad that was something you enjoyed in particular! :D

Date: 2026-01-12 04:06 am (UTC)Kurama and Kuwabara are definitely the least antagonistic towards each other π€ (tho I feel like Kurama gets along with everyone on the team pretty well. But then again, he is technically the oldest, and therefore the most mature lol). I love fics when these two get to interact more with each other!
