alchemicink: Art featuring ghosts and bats flying (Colorful ghosts and bats)

This week: Zeztz asks "are you afraid of the dark?" and Miss Scarlet investigates a ghost!

The title quote comes from Zeztz. Spoilers, as always, below:

Zeztz (episode 15)

This was a great conclusion to the mission Baku was given in the previous episode. It, once again, gives us a little bit more about Odaka's past (how he felt abandoned by CODE when he needed backup in a bad situation) and shows us how Baku is really a good guy (by choosing to destroy only the Nightmare and not Nox too).

I liked how Nem got to play a part in figuring out what Nox was afraid of. I liked that Fujimi and Nagumo were able to track down where Odaka was. I liked that Zero continues to be mysterious about everything. (Very ominous) It just felt like everything came together in this episode, so it was a lot of fun to watch.

The parallels of "I hate the bad dream, but the dreamer has done nothing wrong" (said by Baku) and "I hate the organization but the agent has done nothing wrong" (said by Nox) sets up a very interesting dynamic going forward.

I am very intrigued by the teaser at the end of the episode: Nox reuniting with someone called The Lady. (The Lady was the name of the final villain in Killjoys, another show I loved, so this detail is really funny to me.) Her goals seem to revolve around blurring the line between reality and dreams, so that ought to be fascinating to see play out.

Also, I just love evil Toku ladies in general, so I'm very excited 👀

Miss Scarlet and the Duke (season 1, episode 4)

Haunted photos!!

This was a fun case, just because I love when the suspect is a ghost. How spooky! Sometimes I think this show is at its best when Eliza gets weird cases like this.

The "b-plot," so to speak, was William trying to get a promotion with help from good publicity, and Eliza butting heads with him over snatching up her own opportunity for good publicity. I didn't really care much for this part of the story (it makes William seem very unlikable, in my opinion), but the end where he gives Eliza the publicity was very satisfying. She did almost all the work on the case herself, and really deserved the spotlight!

I don't have too much else to say about this episode, other than I continue to wish Rupert stayed longer than this season. That scene of him and Eliza drinking together was fun, and a nice demonstration of their friendship dynamic. (I would have loved to see him and Patrick interact)

No Ultraman Omega this week. It was the final special recap episode. (Actually a pretty good one, but still not enough substance to write a review for)
