Weekly summary: June 15 - June 21, 2025

alchemicinkThis past week was a good one for me. Things finally slowed down a little at work, so I'm grateful for that. My brain is tired. Not too many things to share this week, but I do have a few links:
I continue to really enjoy Gozyuger! I haven't watched this week's episode yet, but last week's episode inspired a silly fic idea that maybe I'll actually write sometime. I appreciate that the characters in this show have personalities that make it easy for me to come up with humor ideas again. I used to write silly fics all the time and I've really missed it.
Speaking of fics, I have one fic rec this week: a YGO fic about Otogi and friendship. It was really good.

Music stuff!
Just one hsj video this week. They released the concert version of Nerd which was a lot of fun. (I am still really bitter that we never got this song as a single or with a music video, even though it was the theme to Takaki's drama last year 😠but I'm glad we have this video at least. Takaki looks nice)
And speaking of Takaki, he got cast as a supporting character in an upcoming drama! He hasn't been in a primetime drama since 2018, so I'm very excited about it (even though it's a cop drama and I find those rather boring). Still, good for him. He's been busy this year, and he deserves some spotlight for a bit.
I hope I'll be able to get my hands on this drama and watch it as it airs. (His last drama was a late night one and just impossible to find)

In other drama news, I'm looking forward to the premiere of Thai drama "Whale Store XOXO" this week (I'm assuming it'll be on YouTube 🤞 the preview video was, at least).
It's a GL drama starring the same ladies that were in 23.5 last year, and I enjoyed that series. They actually get to play adults in this one instead of high schoolers, so good for them 😂

ANN recently shared two interesting interviews with guests from Animazement (the anime convention I go to every year), and I figured I'd share them here too: an interview with Hirata Hiroaki (Japanese voice of Sanji from One Piece) and interview with Maruyama Masao (founder of studios Madhouse and MAPPA)

I shared a little gardening update here this week. Since I wrote this, I have picked one tomato, and probably will pick another today 🥰
The heat this week is going to be almost unbearable, so I'm gonna keep the garden well-watered and hope everything makes it through okay

And lastly, offline life. Not too exciting at the moment. The most interesting thing is that I started watching Stranger Things with my brother yesterday. (He's seen it before, I haven't) We got through season 1 and a bit of season 2 yesterday, and I'm enjoying it so far. I sorta assumed it was overhyped as most popular things tend to be, but it's not bad at all. Hoping we'll get to watch more soon.

I have to admit that I haven’t ever seen Stranger Things. I suppose I might yet, but it’s hard to say. I think the idea is neat! As a side note, do you ever find it odd to watch stuff in English? I’m so used to watching stuff with subtitles 😂 I’ve been watching Murderbot (first English thing in years, maybe?) and it’s so jarring suddenly being annoyed at the volume fluctuations because I can’t just keep it generally lower

Date: 2025-06-24 01:59 am (UTC)That would make sense. I think 23.5 was also on Netflix in SE Asia and YouTube everywhere else, so I'm hoping thats the case here too. I just couldn't find confirmation. I guess I'll find out on Wednesday when episode 1 airs 😂
Oh yeah, it's cool how growing seasons are so dependent on the weather! Ours is so long down here bc of the heat lol. (I need this heatwave to end soon ðŸ˜)
I thought season 1 was a quite engaging storyline (tho somewhat predictable too). Interesting sidenote question, but I think the answer is no. Maybe because English is the default for me, what I always listened to growing up. So even if I spend a lot of time watching things in other languages, I don't think I have a problem switching back to English. On the other hand tho, I do think a lot of Hollywood movies and shows have terrible sound design/sound mixing!
Sidenote to your sidenote: how's Murderbot? My friend rec'd me the books recently but I haven't seen much talk about the TV version yet. I probably won't get a chance to watch or read soon but I am curious
