It's almost time to start on my garden for this year! Usually around here you don't have to worry about frost after April 15. (Though last year the temperatures did dip briefly and I had to cover up all my plants. Hopefully that won't happen again this year 🤞)

This year I want to do a little better documenting how the garden goes, so this'll hopefully be the first post of many.

I'm doing container gardening again this year since it worked out so well last year. (No weeds to chop, thank goodness 😵‍💫) I'm just using the largest pots I can get from the store and filling them up with potting soil.

This is what I'm planning on planting this year:
☆ tomatoes
☆ bell peppers
☆ eggplant (specifically a Japanese variety)
☆ snaps
☆ yellow summer squash
☆ okra

(You probably know snaps as "green beans," by the way. We've always called them snaps in my family but most people call them green beans and have no idea what I'm talking about when I say snaps 😅)

I haven't tried growing squash and okra in the pots yet, so I'm hoping they'll turn out well. My parents have had some success with squash in their own container garden, but I'm not sure how okra will do in a pot. I'm not familiar with how deep or wide their root system goes. So I guess we'll see! When I grew okra in my old traditional garden a few years ago, it did great and lasted well into October.

These are all things I can eat pretty regularly, so I'm looking forward to not having to buy any of this at the grocery store this summer (if it turns out well 🤞)

What I need to do before planting:
☆ empty out some of last year's pots
☆ buy the plants
☆ buy more potting soil

I've been trying to coordinate with Mom on going to the store together to get things (since Mom and Pops need stuff for their own garden too) but she's been busy every weekend lately, so I might just go myself tomorrow and at least start getting some potting soil.

If all goes well, I should have everything planted before the end of the month.

And, unrelated to the vegetable garden, I also have a few wildflower seed packets that I'm planning to plant too. Pops and I have been trying to figure out the best place in the yard for them though, so that's still undecided right now. But hopefully I'll get them planted soon too.

I am looking forward to it!
