Last night, I finally decided to start writing the Ultraman Arc chaptered fic that's been living in my head for months.

I think I mentioned it in a few summaries, but I wanted to write a story from Shu's point of view that spans the whole series. I just think it would be interesting to dig into his head and see things from his perspective. The bonus diary entries (they're all linked in my resource post here) really added a lot to his character and inspired me to write too.

So my plan is to write one chapter per episode. But I'll also add other scenes too so it's not just a recap of the series. I think Shu's really interesting and it'll be fun to add more depth to his character as I write.

I haven't attempted to write a chaptered fic in several years, so I'm kinda worried I may not be able to finish it. But I'm gonna try!! I figured I will make posts about my progress here as a way to keep myself interested in the project. Since I'm a "not gonna post any of it to ao3 until it's complete" kind of person. I don't usually talk about specifics for my writing projects with other people so this will be a good challenge for me too. (I don't actually expect anyone to read these posts, and that's fine.)

Anyway, so I rewatched episode 1 last night and scribbled out a basic outline. I was surprised by how much I wanted to include actually, so this chapter will probably end up longer than I originally expected. I started writing the first scene, which features stuff that isn't in the episode at all. That's been fun to think about (how Shu ended up in Hoshimoto City in the first place).

On the downside(?), planning everything out is making me think too much about logistics, and now I'm wondering way too much about how Shu shows up everywhere in this first episode when he's clearly not hitching a ride with SKIP in their van. I'm not gonna include this in the chapter but I keep imagining him having to call an Uber 😂

I don't know how fast I'll be at working on this or how often I'm gonna post about it, but I'm excited! And that's really the most important part!
