Weekly summary: Nov. 12 - Nov. 18, 2023
Nov. 19th, 2023 06:37 pmNovember is flying by, isn't it? I went ahead and put up my Christmas decorations yesterday, because otherwise, I think I'll blink and the holiday will already be here.
I really like my decorations though, so it's fun for me to enjoy them as long as possible. My Christmas tree's name is Melvin 😂
Anyway, onto the weekly summary:
I convinced mom to watch the live action One Piece with me, and she said she really enjoyed it so far. We have two episodes left! Mom usually isn't into anything anime-related, so I'm happy she decided to watch OPLA anyway. (I think she was just desperate to watch something new lol)
Anyway, the series is just as fun to me on a second watch. I even started poking more through the fandom tag on ao3. The Shanks/Mihawk fics are usually pretty fun. Maybe I'll have recs eventually~

Speaking of pirates, my only journal post this week was this hodgepodge of Pirate Iida headcanons. I felt like it was a good idea to crosspost it from Twitter before it got lost forever.
***
The only writing I've been able to do this week is for my PBNHA assignment, which I finally finished this morning. I'm crossing my fingers that my recipient likes it.
Now that it's done, I can get back to a couple of WIPs I've left in limbo for a bit. Hopefully. If I don't get too distracted.

Actually, distraction has been causing me a bit of trouble lately when it comes to my language studies. I've been refreshing my memory/learning more kanji with Wanikani for the past few years, but I've not been very consistent with it so far. (Until recently, I was stuck at level 12 for over a year...)
I think the program is really good at teaching me new kanji and helping me remember it. But it'd be a lot easier if I didn't skip several days in a row because I keep forgetting about the website itself or losing focus.
My goal is to be more consistent moving forward, so hopefully I'll make some progress soon. I hate losing all the stuff I learned before if I don't constantly use it!

Music stuff!
Here's a very energetic live Gacharic Spin performance of Kachi Kachi Yama. Very very fun to watch, especially when Yuri and Hana switch so Hana can play the drumset.
In other Gacharic Spin news, they announced a tour next year with DOLL$BOXX (which was a side band collaboration with Fuki from Unlucky Morpheus as the lead singer). I think it's been at least five years since they collabed, so I hope we get new music out of it!
In the usual hsj update, here's a preview for their tenth album that's coming out next month. I actually really liked what I heard and might consider buying the album if I had the money to spare right now. I haven't been interested in any of their albums since Keito left...
Queen Bee is apparently following up their "Zero Ichi" song with Zero Ni. I don't know if this is from the same anime or not, but it's another cool song to listen to.
In a nostalgic blast from the past (for me), here's a recent live performance of Zukkoke Otoko Michi by Kanjani8. It's a little weird to hear the song without the former bandmates, but I still remembered a good chunk of the lyrics and the dance moves 😂
And one thing that remains consistent with Kanjani over the years is Yasu's flashy fashion. He looks like he's wearing swim trunks here. I expected nothing less 😂
Lastly, here's TMR singing one of his older songs: Invoke

Stumbled across this news article about a reading group that's been working their way through Finnegans Wake since 1995 😯
***
Also stumbled across the news that Tubi is streaming all of Classic Doctor Who now. You can check them out here
I got some recommendations from people over at
tv_talk on which episodes and Doctors I should check out first, so I'm looking forward to watching! (When I have the time...... I really should finish up other stuff I was watching first)

And finally, I've been tricking myself into waking up on time by watching an episode of Sakamichi no Apollon first thing each morning 😂 I'm seven episodes in now, and the series is just as engaging as I remember it. Makes me feel like listening to more jazz again 🥰
That's all for this summary. Wishing everyone a wonderful week ahead! And Happy (early) Thanksgiving to those in the US!
