I cannot believe we're through a chunk of August already. I still feel like it should be April. (The weather, however, definitely feels like August. We're under another heat advisory today 😩)
Once again, I had a busy and exhausting week. And this time, a bout of melancholy as well. (Am I secretly an overdramatic Victorian woman who needs to go to the seaside to recover? Maybe yes.) But nevertheless, I still have some things to share from the past week, so let's get to it!
As promised, here are all of the fics I wrote for the most recent Seasons of Drabbles round.
☆ Comprehensive Determination (Yu Yu Hakusho, Kuwabara & Kurama)
☆ something happier (Wednesday [TV], Wednesday/Enid)
☆ Presence by your side (Teen Titans, Beast Boy/Raven)
☆ This dance, saved for you (Star Trek Strange New Worlds, Christine Chapel/Erica Ortegas)
☆ Two kinds of scientists (Star Trek: Alternate Original Series, Kirk & Bones)
☆ Like Relief (Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Riza/Winry)
I was really pleased with how these fics all turned out, especially because several were for fandoms that I've never written for before. A drabble challenge apparently is the best way to dabble in a new sandbox of characters and settings. I was also pleased that I had the chance to write more wlw fics too! That's really been a big focus for me this year.
In other writing news, I posted a little snippet of a thing for my shiritori turn over at
writetomyheart. I've been on a bnha fic-writing break lately, but tried to write a little momojirou fantasy au. Maybe I'll poke at this idea again soon.
I also started working on my Power Rangers in Space (PRiS) fic project again, which has been fun! I'm writing a series of fics that are set during or after specific episodes of the series. So basically, a series of missing scenes! It's fun to be able to flesh out these characters more! I'm only about eight fics in so far, but I estimate this will probably be about 30-ish when I'm done? Maybe??

Thinking about writing for new fandoms this week got me thinking about fandoms in general actually. Well, specifically, I was musing on how disconnected I usually feel from them.
I don't have a problem diving into reading/writing fic for more fandoms. But when it comes to interacting with other fans, I feel like I hit a wall. I find usually that even though we both like the same thing, we don't usually like it in the same way. And that makes it difficult for me to continue to engage with fandom as a whole. (I know this description is vague, but I guess the best example is that I'm not interested in nsfw content, but for a lot of people, that's wholly what they're focused on. So obviously, we don't connect there. And then I just don't know how to share what I do enjoy after that.)
My other problem is that I'm extremely introverted, and I work an extremely extroverted job, so I spend my free time recharging so I can keep functioning. This often makes the idea of building new friendships in new fandoms exhausting to me. Ansa sent me a link to a very interesting Star Trek community a while back, but I keep putting off joining it because I'm not sure I'm able to put effort into meeting new people yet. (I do want to join tho 😭)
Maybe I just need an extrovert to adopt me 😂
Anyway, this is just something that's been on my mind lately. Feeling disconnected really sucks, but I'm grateful for the small group of friends who have stuck with me after all this time 🥰

I'm still making my way through Kamen Rider Kuuga and Mirai Sentai Timeranger! Both are very entertaining, but I didn't expect how serious Kuuga would be at times. It's not bad though. Every day, I'm sitting at work thinking "can't wait to get home tonight and watch another episode" 😅
Also, I discovered that the actress who played Chisato in Megaranger is also in Kuuga as one of the police officers! I love recognizing actors in different things. I wonder if any other familiar faces will pop up along the way. (Probably so, considering that it's all tokusatsu)

Very quiet week for music. I didn't like this week's hsj video, so I'm not sharing it here.
But I do have a music video from Exist Trace that they uploaded in full on their channel this week. (They've been sharing videos for a lot of their older songs recently as an anniversary celebration.)
Anyway, this is Diamond from 2013. It's kind of that era where their sound had shifted away from the rough vocals to something a little more mainstream. Anyway, the song is good but I was mostly focused on how awesome everyone looks in this video 😍 I love everyone's style and want it for myself lol. I don't get to talk about them often but Exist Trace is one of my all-time favorite j-rock bands.

Lastly, I had to get the brakes replaced on my car this week, which was frustrating but ultimately not too bad. But I did have to drive my dad's truck for three days, and let me tell you, that thing is so tall that I felt like I was driving one of his tractors all week 😂 the most nerve-wracking experience was taking it through the Burger King drive-thru 😂😂 anyway, I was grateful when I got my car back. The perspective shift is always wild when I go back to driving my car because for about a day, it literally feels like I'm sitting on the ground as I drive.
There's probably a metaphor in here about seeing the world from different viewpoints, but I'll let y'all fill that in yourselves. Hope everyone has a lovely week ahead!
