This week: Zeztz becomes Antman; one last walk down the runway for Punks Triangle; and Ultraman Omega performs CPR!?
I once again just skipped watching Hana Kimi. I'll get back to it when I feel like it.
The pull quote is from Punks Triangle, in honor of its final episode.
Zeztz (episode 11)
I think this case just wasn't very compelling to me because I felt kind of *shrug emoji* for the conclusion. I wasn't expecting the dreamer to be an art forger, which was a nice twist, but the stuff Nox was doing with the art was so convoluted that I still am not sure why he was doing all that by the end of the episode.
I'm glad he got his belt back though because I am still very interested in learning more about his backstory and what his motivations are.
Unfortunately I think Nox is more interesting to me than Baku is right now, which is probably another reason I'm not really vibing with the show at the moment. The protagonist probably should be more interesting.
I did, however, appreciate that Baku cared more about saving the dreamer than his mission to save the secret. He's a good kid. I have a feeling this show is gonna put him through the wringer as it continues.
On a sidenote, Zeztz shrinking down to Antman size was very funny to me 😁
Punks triangle (episode 8) (final episode!)
I'm sorry to say that I thought this final episode was a bit underwhelming. This is the problem with series that are only eight episodes long. Chiaki didn't have enough time onscreen to really sit with the revelation about AE/Enaga. We also didn't have time for any of Enaga's point of view during the fallout either.
I did enjoy the runway interview about repairing relationships instead of throwing them away, but it just didn't feel earned to me at that point.
But rushed finale aside, I enjoyed this series overall. Fujibayashi Yasunari (AE/Enaga) gave a stellar performance from start to finish. The themes about identity were interesting (even if not always fully fleshed out). And the soundtrack and fashion were fantastic. Definitely one of the better BL series I've watched.
I will probably write some fanfic for this series at some point 🤭
Ultraman Omega (episode 20)
Time travel!!
Actually, most of the episode happened in the present, and the time travel stuff only showed us a brief (and stark) glimpse at a possible future. I feel like if you include time travel in a story, it should be more pivotal to the plot. But maybe that's just me.
There were a lot of nice moments in this episode. The real highlight for me was Ayumu desperately doing CPR on the baby kaiju, and the boys joining in too. I appreciate a message where the focus is on saving life. It was really heartfelt to watch. And it was even better when Sorato used that episode later to save the parent kaiju too.
But back to the time travel. The show has been hinting recently at something catastrophic heading towards humanity, and this bleak future seems to show that as well. (Though we don't know how far forward they jumped.) But I have to admit I'm getting kind of impatient waiting for the reveal. Especially because none of the characters are acknowledging it! But there are only 5 episodes left, so I think I won't have to wait much longer.
Lastly, did anyone else struggle with how dark those warehouse scenes were?? The abandoned warehouse coulda left one light on or something!
