alchemicinkbluedreaming suggested I title these weekly posts with a pull quote from an episode, so I'm trying that out this time. Today's quote comes from Gozyuger. This week: Zeztz protects the bride, Hoeru considers alternate realities, and the cool science lady is back on Ultraman Omega!
(I'm skipping Hana Kimi this week because I didn't have time to watch it. It should be back in the rotation next week like usual.)
Zeztz (episode 5)
This was a fun episode. I enjoyed it a lot more than the last one (which wasn't bad, btw. Just not as attention-grabbing to me.)
I'm really enjoying the Paranormal Affairs duo! They fall squarely into a very classic comedy trope, and I absolutely love it. I'm excited that they're gonna be working with Baku from now on and hanging out at the secret base. (Still cackling over the visuals of them entering and exiting Baku's room 😂) They're going to be fun allies!
As for the mission itself, I appreciated that it wasn't the obvious pining-for-the-childhood-friend thing (that Fujimi thought it was). The bride being afraid of flying was a nice twist! I hope future cases continue to go with the least-expected explanation.
Lastly, we only got him briefly in one scene but I'm very curious about Nox (and his connection to Nem). I'm hoping we'll get some explanation/backstory next week
Gozyuger (episode 33)
The trouble with Rei continues to progress, and Hoeru goes on a side quest.
Honestly, I loved everything about Hoeru's storyline in this episode. Firstly because he looks adorable in his delivery outfit. But more importantly, because it's such a vital turning point in his story. In this episode, he has to choose between a world where he never got separated from his family and the world we've been watching this whole time. It was sweet and sad to see a glimpse of how the Tono family would have been if No One World didn't exist. But in the end, Hoeru decides it's more important to him to help his friends achieve their dreams, even if his life in that reality is a struggle. The payoff for all of this was really satisfying, considering how Hoeru said he didn't have friends in episode 9 and how alone he was when the series began. Now, he really cares about them.
Meanwhile, the rest of the team is struggling with Rei, who's still causing problems and being manipulated by Bellum, the Calamity's general. I'm a little disappointed that Sumino's story in all of this has been tossed to the wayside, but I'm also not surprised. Oh well. We'll just have to wait to see how they conclude this arc.
Omega (episode 14)
This episode kicks off the second half of the series, and I enjoyed it because it set up some interesting things for the plot going forward.
Firstly, we're properly introduced to Sayuki, the cool science lady from episode 12. I love her already! Even in her brief conversation with the trio, she was already theorizing and speculating about things and bringing a scientific perspective that we just haven't really had much of in the show so far. Plus, she's very "I'm gonna do whatever I want" which is fun to watch. I can't wait to see more of her as the series continues.
The second part of the episode introduces an assassin who comes to "eliminate Omega." He doesn't do much talking in this episode so we've only got hints so far as to what the story is here, but I'm definitely intrigued. He and Sorato also did a lot of hand-to-hand fighting, which I enjoyed too. I thought it was choreographed well. (I always enjoy a good fight and characters getting roughed up. It's why I'm so drawn to tokusatsu in general 😁)
