Episodes I watched this past week
Jul. 26th, 2025 11:01 pmThis past week: lots of interpersonal conflicts! Plenty of drama! Sort of a hit or miss week for me on whether I liked all the drama or not.
Episode spoilers below:
Gozyuger (episode 22)
Let's all learn about saving money this week!
As someone who likes finding ways to save money too, I really enjoyed the No. 1 battle this week 🤭 This is Hoeru's specialty! Even though saving money is a necessity for him, I liked that we got to see how much he actually enjoys it too. Those scenes were just really fun. (My personal favorite was when the No. 1 was like "you can apply a discount sticker yourself" and Hoeru was like "why didn't I think of that?" And Ryuugi's like "don't be impressed, that's a crime" 😂)
Meanwhile, Rikuo is having a Bad Time, meeting up with his old unhinged friend who is, among other things, a kidnapper. Oh no!! I thought it was really interesting to see Rei be just as manipulative to Rikuo as Kuon was to Hoeru. Both boys used to idolize these guys when they were younger. I'm curious to see how this storyline is going to play out and what they're trying to say with it.
Oh, and also, amidst all this, Fire Candle is going berserk. Have we tried turning him off and then back on again?
SSBC (episode 3)
I have to admit, I was a little skeptical about this series first because the premise just felt kind of run-of-the-mill to me. But after watching episode 3, I think I'm really enjoying it! I guess I shouldn't be surprised; I was a long-time watcher of NCISLA and I can't resist a good investigation. I'm glad I can follow most of it without subtitles.
The crime this week was a freak who liked tasering ladies so he can steal their left shoe. But the lady he gets at the beginning of this episode falls down a flight of steps and hits her head, and then later dies. Aoyagi Haruka, the lady in charge of the First Division, teams up with the SSBC team to find the guy and find the evidence to prosecute. (And they have to have the evidence because the criminal's dad is a big time politician.) Aoyagi takes this case a bit personally because the victim was a single mom, and she's a single mom too. (She and Igaki from SSBC are divorced)
What I like about this show is just seeing all the things they do to gather info. They figured out a vital piece of information by using security video from a VENDING MACHINE and checking the reflection in the guy's sunglasses. Absurdly entertaining to me. (Also terrifying to think about how much we are all caught on camera in real life.)
And another thing I really like is that there's actually plenty of humor mixed in throughout. Aoyagi is really funny whenever she scolds Igaki. And Aoyagi's usually-stern boss immediately folds whenever Nanami requests something. And plenty of other little bits too. When dealing with these violent crimes, a bit of levity is welcome.
Lastly, just wanna mention that one of my favorite side characters so far is the journalist lady! 🤭
Whale Store (episode 5)
Drama time! Everyone's dealing with secrets and the stress that comes with them. Maewnam wonders whether she should tell Wan that her family runs the rival chain grocery store. And Wan tries to conceal her prior relationship with the new professor. (I cannot remember her name no matter how many times they say it.) But of course, all their secrets get revealed and they must deal with the fallout.
I'm not really a fan of this flavor of drama, so this wasn't my favorite episode. And, though I'm glad they resolved the issue by the end of the episode, I think that just demonstrates the pacing problem this series continues to have.
By the way, did I also mention that Wan finds out she's in crippling debt too? Not great! But Maewnam is a fixer, and I have faith she'll somehow solve this problem by the end of the series.
Lastly, I'm continuing to ignore the storyline about Maewnam's friends because I still don't like it! 😭
10 things... (episode 4)
The list item this week was a very simple "make a custom order at a café" but before that: a lesson in skincare? 😂
As usual, this was a really cute episode. The bulk of the episode was Tojo and the team working on a project concerning a skincare company, and Tojo wrestling with a bit of jealousy since Keishi went to college with the manager at the other company. And as usual, Tojo's a bit hard on himself, thinking that maybe Keishi's better-suited for the other guy.
Of course, Keishi clears this up by the end of the episode, and it's really sweet. (Just as sweet as the customized drink Tojo finally orders lol) I have really enjoyed how their relationship is slowly developing with these little moments together. I'm looking forward to next week's episode, where they're apparently going ~shopping~☆🤭
Ultraman Omega (episode 4)
A pretty simple plot for this episode: Sorato meets up with Ayumu to investigate mysterious claw marks. Kosei gets mad, feeling like Sorato doesn't need him. In the end, they make up. (Rekiness helps)
That's it. That's the episode. (Plus a kaiju fight!)
I feel kinda bad that I'm not quite vibing with this series yet. I think it's fun, but it doesn't get me excited the way Arc did. Maybe I just need more appearances from Ayumu? I like her a lot. I was disappointed when she just kinda disappeared from the episode after the kaiju shows up. But then again, the conflict and focus of this episode was between Sorato and Kosei, so it makes sense not to focus on her here.
Anyway, I like the landlord guy. He's got a fun Hawaiian shirt 😁 I hope he'll show up again once or twice in the future
