Somehow I've ended up watching several shows weekly as they air π
I can't remember the last time I tried to keep up with so many at once. But I'm really excited about it so far. (With the exception of one Thai show, everything else is in Japanese.)
So I figured I'd throw together all my thoughts on this week's episodes in one post here, instead of trying to commit to making individual posts for everything. These will probably contain a few spoilers along the way.
No. 1 Sentai Gozyuger (episode 20)
I haven't talked much about Gozyuger lately but I'm still loving it. What a weird show β‘ Anyway, episode 20 was fantastic for me personally because it put the guys in gyaru outfits (and I just generally love the aesthetic of guys in drag). I really appreciated how it never seemed to be the butt of a joke here. In previous episodes, Rikuo has always complained about every outfit he's forced into, but for this one, he's just like shrug "I could get used to it." And both Hoeru and Ryuugi seem excited to learn more about the fashion style and they even show up later in the outfits without any fanfare.
I only wish this episode had nothing to do with Sumino's sister because that whole storyline genuinely depresses me :( Sumino's been looking for her for 8 years and Oto doesn't even remember her. And then the end of the episode was just another punch to the gut.
That being said, I'm really excited to see what will be revealed in the next episode. Will we finally get the truth about the gray-eyed kidnapper? (Is Rikuo involved??)
倧追跑ο½θ¦θ¦εΊSSBCεΌ·θ‘η―δΏο½ (episode 1)
I think I mentioned before that Takaki is in a new drama, right? (First time he's been in a primetime drama since 2018!) I was able to find the first episode this week, and even though I watched it without any subs, I understood most of what happened. It's not the most amazing drama ever but I've definitely watched worse for Takaki π
Anyway, the series is focused on the "SSBC" team which provides crime scene analysis and support for the cops who are investigating violent crimes. They gather surveillance footage and analyze phone data, etc. I guess it's a little like Japanese CSI? (Maybe this is a bad comparison because I never watched American CSI myself π ) The leads are the new guy who joins the team (played by Aiba from Arashi), the mentor who shows him the ropes, and the lady in charge of the violent crimes division. The rest of the cast (including Takaki) are other members of the SSBC team. (There is one lady on the team who looks incredibly familiar to me but I cannot figure out where I've seen her before. It's gonna bug me forever!)
I enjoyed the first episode. Since Aiba's character is new to the team, the audience gets a chance to learn about everything as he does. It seems like they'll be investigating a different crime each episode, so I'm looking forward to that. And Takaki's character has a different tie on every time he pops up, so I enjoy that too π Hopefully I'll be able to keep finding these episodes as the series continues
Whale Store xoxo (episode 3)
This continues to be incredibly cute but oh so predictable. But it's a romcom, so I don't know what I expected π
Anyway, episode 3 had Wan dealing with a thief in her store and Maewnam of course helps her. It stresses me out that Wan can't stop being unintentionally rude to her customers/neighbors, but I'm glad things get easily resolved, even if it's unrealistic.
As for the romance, it's moving faster than I expected! (But I should have expected it. This is kinda how 23.5 played out too.) My prediction for the rest of the series is that the couple gets together about halfway through, they'll have a cute episode together, and then something devastating will happen. (Probably the dramatic reveal that Maewnam's family owns the rival grocery store) We shall see if my prediction turns out correct!
Nevertheless, I will still be tuning in each week. Because like I said earlier: incredibly cute! π₯° Also this is the only show I'm watching right now with women as the leads π
10 things I want to do before I turn 40 (episode 2)
So this might end up being my favorite of everything so far. Like Whale Store, this one is also incredibly cute π₯° It's so nice and simple and doesn't have any real drama so far.
Tojo spends half the episode thinking about Keishi and wondering if the offer to complete the list together was just a joke. But then the other half of the episode is Keishi actually getting them to check an item off the list. (It was the takoyaki party, which was adorable. And made me hungry π)
I continue to be fascinated by their height difference. (Just how tall IS Shoji Kohei??)
They're going to the aquarium next week π€© I'm jealous lol, I love aquariums
Ultraman Omega (episode 2)
So I enjoyed episode 2 a lot more than episode 1! I can't quite put my finger on why (other than this episode made me laugh more). The dynamic between Kosei and Sorato (Omega) is really fun, and I'm glad we got introduced to the other main character, Ayumu, here too. She's cool! I hope she gets better focus episodes than Rin did in Arc.
I like how this Ultraman universe has never had to deal with kaiju before, so they're just scrambling to figure things out. To me, that's an interesting perspective to explore after having watched Arc (they'd been dealing with kaiju for 16 years) and Blazar (where kaiju have apparently just always been around?)
Anyway, my favorite part of the episode was seeing Kosei wear a shirt that says "East Carolina" π Made me laugh so hard (I live like a few hours from East Carolina University) I love reading English t-shirts in Japanese shows!
So I figured I'd throw together all my thoughts on this week's episodes in one post here, instead of trying to commit to making individual posts for everything. These will probably contain a few spoilers along the way.
