Weekly summary: May 7 - May 13, 2023

alchemicinkI had a pretty nice week where I was decently busy but not too much that I couldn't enjoy anything. Actually, I even had extra time to watch some new things!
Let's talk about everything:
We started off the week with Viz announcing a new manga subscription service (available currently only in US and Canada). Although it's separate from their Shounen Jump subscription service, it's still a really decent deal for $1.99 per month. I'm really tempted to join but I'm afraid I'll get nothing done once I have access to a bunch of manga to read 😅

Now to my regularly scheduled Ousasa update. Episode 4 can be boiled down simply to two things: using a Rube Goldberg machine to flirt, and food as a metaphor for love 😂
Okay, a little more explanation: this episode shares the backstory for how Ayaka and her old friend Kamiyami met (the aforementioned Rube Goldberg machine). Their friendship/almost-something-more relationship ended on a bad note, but now they're happy to catch up with each other in the present.
Meanwhile, Tougou spends the whole episode feeling jealous, because of course, he's actually starting to catch feelings for his wife! There's a few sweet moments when he and Ayaka cook for each other (the aforementioned "food as a metaphor for love" trope).
Oh, and Ayaka's brother Riku figures out the ruse! It's only a matter of time before the fake marriage gets exposed to everyone else, and I'm very much looking forward to it 😈
On the whole, I've been pleasantly surprised by this drama so far. It's quite entertaining! (Sorry that I just throw these recaps into my summary posts instead of just writing something separate...)
And now, onto music:
Speaking of Ousasa, hsj is doing the theme song for the show ("Dear My Lover") and they released the music video on YouTube this week! Or well, the short version anyway 🙄 Still, the song and video are quite entertaining. I've always liked their videos best when you can tell they had a fun time filming!
The other music I have to share is Nemophilia covering a Hanabie song! I mentioned Hanabie in my very first summary post, so it was just cool to see Nemophilia covering a song I actually am familiar with! Both versions are great.
In other news, I've made the terrible (read: great) decision to search Tubi for more things I might be interested to watch. And there is a TON of things on there I'm interested in. (This may hurt my productivity worse than a manga subscription 😂). So this week I started rewatching Ouran High School Host Club (a favorite from my own high school days) and watching Denkou Chojin Gridman (Gridman the Hyper Agent) for the first time. Gridman is the original tokusatsu series that SSSS.Gridman was based on. So I've been curious to watch. (It's not that exciting so far lol)
In fic updates, I didn't get a chance to read much. But I have been working on stuff for Seasons of Drabbles, so look forward to those later this month!
Lastly, a garden update: two of my plants died this week 💔 but they hadn't looked well before we put them in the ground, so it was expected. But on the bright side, we got some replacements that look real nice, so hopefully they'll turn out better! I'm gonna end up with way too much to eat this year I think 😂 but that's okay. Also, mom got me some flowers to add out there too. I don't usually put flowers in my garden but she was worried I wouldn't have enough bees this year.
So, anyway, if nothing else, my garden at least has some nice colors right now!
