Weekly summary: Nov. 17 - Nov. 23, 2024

alchemicinkFelt like I went through this past week in a haze. I was pretty exhausted. Work has been kinda slow which is actually more anxiety-inducing for me than when it's busy. But this week looks a little better I think!
Anyway, onto more interesting things:
One of the reasons I was so tired this week is because I went to a basketball game Monday night with my brother. He's an alumni of the local university and decided to buy passes for the athletic season to support the program. I've never actually gone to watch the local basketball team, despite having lived only 20 minutes away my whole life! So this was an adventure for me 😁
Anyway, we had a lot of fun. Our team got off to a slow start, so the first half was a bit of trash-ketball. But they rallied back in the second half to make it more exciting. Especially the last 8 minutes! Every time we tied up the score or took the lead, the whole gym got LOUD.
Unfortunately, our team lost on a last second buzzer beater, but I still had a fun time overall. We'll definitely be going to more games this season.
(I had planned to write a whole detailed post about the game this week, but the aforementioned exhaustion got me. So you get rambling here instead lol)

Ultraman Arc continues to be really fun for me to watch! This week's new episode wrapped up a four-episode mini crossover arc that's been so cool to watch. I liked how it ended! I was maybe a tiny bit disappointed about the lack of cameos when I first watched it, but looking back, I think it worked better the way they did it here. Plus, I can always write fic later! (I did, in fact, already write some fic, which I'll link later in this post)
Meanwhile, Ishido's diary entry for episode 17 was good. I liked the bit where he admits he doesn't actually watch historical dramas despite saying he did in the episode 😂
There was also a fun roundtable event with the cast of Arc and Blazar shared on YouTube after the new episode aired.
There are no subtitles (as of when I watched it yesterday), but I was able to follow along with most of it with my rusty Japanese. They shared their favorite scenes from both series, took turns doing different Ultraman poses, and - my personal favorite part - took turns doing the Arc and Blazar transformation poses. The funniest part was Nishi (who plays the Chief in Arc) attempting to do his Abared pose instead 😂
Sometimes I find cast interviews too awkward to watch, but this video was more entertaining to me than embarrassing. Maybe I'm just in too deep right now 😂

Quick fic recs! Just a few things I managed to read when I had a few free moments:
☆ A fascinating YGO fic taking a look at Atem's time in the puzzle and how he ended up Like That in season 0.
☆ A fun little YGO au featuring Kaiba/Joey as detectives. Only Kaiba is a vampire and Joey is a medium and they're investigating a demon possession. I would have read a 20k fic of this au because it was so fun
☆ another AU, but this one for live action One Piece. Mihawks/Shanks in space!! I just love sci-fi AUs so much

These were all a lot of fun, but I really need to focus this coming week on my toku holiday exchange piece 😅 there's still plenty of time, but I wanna finish it early so I can do treats too (hopefully)

Lastly, I put up my Christmas decorations yesterday! I meant to do that two weeks ago but gestures at life. Anyway, it always makes me happy to see them when they're up. My Christmas tree is so cute 🥰
I attempted to do a little Christmas shopping with my parents this afternoon, but I didn't find too much. Picking out gifts always stresses me out. But it was nice to spend the afternoon together anyway.

I’m glad you had fun at the game and I hope you do at future games too!
I resonate so much with this on a general level. If I’m in the right “just got off this show” or something sense, it’s fun! If not, it feels either embarrassing or overly personal or some combo of the two. Ahh celebrity is such a quadruple-edged sword.
