Weekly summary: Apr. 2 - Apr. 8, 2023
Apr. 9th, 2023 11:13 amBusy, busy week at work, but I made it through! Can y'all believe we're already through the first week in April?! Time is zooming right now.
But nevermind that, let's talk about this past week.
Funnily, all my music links this week are live concert videos instead of music videos. Guess it was a good week for sharing the stage lol
TMR (Takanori Nishikawa) released a live version of Bucchigire which I'm very excited about because the music video version is spliced with snippets of other songs. It's visually kinda cool but terrible if you just wanna hear the song, so the live version is a nice alternative. It's classic dramatic TMR too. (Just look at that outfit lol)
Band Maid shared a performance of Puzzle from a concert they did back in January. I didn't particularly like the stage version on first listen, but it definitely grew on me. Plus, having an English translation (there are captions available) gave me a better appreciation for the song.
And, of course, HSJ's video of the week is from their Parade tour (which I've never seen). Oh my darling is a Yamada solo, and it's pretty standard fare at first, but the live version is more fun once the rest of the group crashes the stage 😁 Wai Wai Chinen!!
I finally had some time at the end of the week to do some reading, but my brain is apparently still fixated on ATLA right now, so that's all the recs I have this time 😅 it's a nice variety of ships tho!
sometimes, it's divine (yue/katara, modern university au)
Archery and girls!! What more can you ask for?
running right back to you (zukka, modern au)
I love a cute zukka fic, and it made me wish someone had brought me cold drinks when the AC was broke at work a few years ago lol
While the music lasts (zutara, modern au, band au)
Absolutely loved the way the author translated so many canon plot points over to this AU, plus all the music stuff in general was really lovely. Zutara was my original favorite ship for this series back in the day, but this is the first one I've read in a long time. Did not disappoint!
Rising cinder sparks (sukka, during and post canon)
Just a sweet little fic about the helpful aspects of fire. Plus the author includes some info about the Ainu culture
Not a fic, but I really enjoyed the insights from this episode of Braving the Elements. It's pretty much an overview of important turning points for the characters in season two, and it raised a lot of things I'd never thought about before.
Lastly, I finally got to finish season one of G-witch! It was so good, but as predicted, so devastating 😭 anyway, I finally understand the purpose of the Utena parallels now, as it's becoming clearer that this story is probably going to be about breaking free of manipulative abuse. But we'll have to wait and see how things play out going forward to know for sure.
Overall, I really enjoyed the first 12 episodes! It did seem to lag a little at the beginning, but really kicked into high gear around episode 5 and 6 and just didn't stop after that. Season two is starting today, and I wish I could start it right away. But I'm not watching on Crunchyroll and I'm in the wrong region to watch on GundamInfo. So I'll just have to wait a few months probably before GundamInfo makes it globally available again. SIGH
That's all I've got this time! Maybe next week will be more exciting? Maybe I'll get some fic writing done?? Who knows!
Wishing everyone a fantastic week!
