Weekly summary: May 26 - June 1, 2024
Jun. 2nd, 2024 02:10 pmJune already?! I feel like I'm still shocked every evening that the sun is out past 6 p.m. π can time stop flying by so fast??
Anyway, this was a pretty nice week! Not super exciting but I felt good for the most part.
That being said, my first thing to share is that my favorite basketball commentator, Bill Walton, has passed away. RIP. I am too young to be familiar with his basketball career, but I always enjoyed his crazy antics once he became a commentator. You could tell he was always having a good time at the game.
I'll never forget the time he ate a lit candle on a cupcake π

Still on my Yu-Gi-Oh bullshit this week. There are seriously just a ton of interesting fics in this fandom.
Here are my recs this week:
β A lovely puzzleshipping fic where Yugi and Atem get ready for and attend a family wedding. Super sweet.
β an interesting heartshipping fic which I think is more like a character study.
β The one where Anzu never loses. Very funny Anzu/Kaiba fic. "Who on earth watches baseball?" is the FUNNIEST throwaway line
β A fascinating Ryou character study. Mind the tags. (And what isn't tagged: there's a detailed description of the Egyptian mummification process)
β A tale told through product reviews. Was very hilarious and heartfelt!
***
As for other reading, I've got two chapters left in my Howl's Moving Castle reread! As usual, I'm dragging it out because I don't want to be finished with it. (But I'm sure I'll finish this week!) Anyway, if y'all have never read it before, it's a really fun story.
***
I don't usually bother linking to podcasts I listen to, but this Braving the Elements episode was extra funny. Janet and Dante (plus guest Joaquim Dos Santos) recap ATLA episode "The Puppetmaster" and Dante is not here for the horror tropes π I enjoy everything from this podcast, but I haven't laughed that hard in a while
***
Speaking of ATLA, I wrote my first Azula/Suki fic this week! You can read it here. (I'll crosspost to ao3 eventually) This was my first time writing Azula, so it was a bit of a challenge, but I'm pleased with how it turned out.
I also put together my monthly writing goals post. I'm hopeful I'll be successful with them. This coming week is definitely going to be focused on my intoabar fic!

I had to work for a bit on Saturday afternoon to attend a local outdoor festival. Thankfully the weather was not too humid, so hanging out in the shade wasn't too bad. I chatted with a couple of people, which was nice, but the turnout while I was there was disappointingly low. (I apparently missed the crowd earlier in the day)
Anyway, it was nice to get out of the house for a bit (but I definitely took a two-hour nap afterwards π introvert troubles lol)
***
Lastly, I've been slowly rewatching season one of Gundam IBO (iron-blooded orphans). I love this series so much. I'm very interested at the moment in analyzing how the tragedy of this series is adults just constantly taking advantage of children. They're so blatantly selfish. There's probably some commentary on the importance of education too.
Either way, I think this series is just really moving. Plus, I just love all the characters. (I'm definitely going to be writing more fic soon lol)
Anyway, that's all I've got this week. Happy Pride! Wishing everyone a wonderful week ahead!

Date: 2024-06-10 04:49 pm (UTC)Itβs definitely a fun newsletter! They collect a few fannish snippets from around the web too, so itβs fun to get a peek at that, without being involved in those fandoms or (sometimes) suffering those areas of social media.
Thank you!
