Weekly summary: Apr. 28 - May 4, 2024
May. 5th, 2024 02:09 pmI had one of those emotional rollercoaster weeks, but it ended on a high rather than a low, so I can't complain 😊
This week's summary got a little rambly... lol
I did some house-sitting for my parents at the beginning of the week, so I temporarily had access to Netflix. I took the opportunity to watch one of the live action Fullmetal Alchemist movies, a strange fantasy movie, and part of the live action Yu Yu Hakusho series.
The Fullmetal Alchemist movie was the one focused on Scar. Mackenyu played Scar, but unfortunately I can only see him as Zoro from One Piece now 😂 And Yamada Ryosuke from hsj played Ed, and I still think that's great casting (yamada has plenty of practice yelling at people who call him short 😂) but I also just can't unsee him as Yamada. So watching this movie was a weird experience.
Also the script was just bad 😬 I don't really recommend the movie, but I'm glad I finally got to see it, if that makes sense.
The fantasy movie I watched was "Once Upon a Crime" starring Hashimoto Kanna and Araki Yuko. They were so pretty in this movie 🥰✨️
Kanna plays Little Red Riding Hood and Yuko is Cinderella, and a murder has happened at the palace! Red plays detective to figure out the murderer.
It's not a great movie but I was entertained. It's got a specific brand of Japanese humor I enjoy, though I'm not sure others would. But really, my favorite part was just seeing Kanna and Yuko in their pretty dresses
I didn't have time to fully rewatch the YYH live action series, so I watched episodes one and two, which are the best in my opinion anyway.
The rewatch resparked my obsession with Kurama, so I've been thinking about a fic I want to write all week 😂

I enjoy reading random health advice from NPR for some reason, and this week, there was an article about taking the stairs. I'm saving this as a good reminder for myself. Though I don't have access to as many stairs as I used to. (Not like in college when I'd climb several flights each day to get to my dorm room or class)
NPR also had a nice photo feature about Cairo, Egypt. And it reminded me of an angstshipping fic I was writing, so I'm saving this for visual inspiration 😁

Fic reading and writing stuff!
Only one fic rec: an FMAB fic where Ed can't stop proposing to Winry. It's very cute!
I would have read more this week but I need to finish replying to fic comments first...
Seasons Of Drabbles had reveals on Monday, and I wrote 12(!) fics 😅 which bumped me to 250 total on ao3, which I think is cool.
I want to make a separate post soon to link all my SoD fics for this round instead of spamming them all here in the summary post. Hopefully this week 🤞
intoabar signups are open! I'm very excited about writing a crossover again! I still need to decide on a character and fandoms first tho... I have too many choices
I also included intoabar in my monthly writing goals for May

Music stuff!
HSJ's weekly video was me (it's the Japanese character め so it's pronounced like "meh"). This song is from an album I don't have, so I wasn't really familiar with it. But it's very silly, so I enjoyed it
The other song this week is really silly too: it's a collab project with Super Eight (formerly Kanjani8), West (formerly JWest), and Naniwa Danshi. They're the Kansai groups from Starto Entertainment (formerly Johnnys). Anyway, they got together for a very silly, very Kansai-focused song called musekinin de eejainaika love (which is just a mashup of song titles they've released before)
I can't stop watching it 😂

We're all the way to episode 9 of 23.5! The weeks are going by too fast! This episode wasn't as angsty as I was expecting from the preview but there's definitely some conflict brewing. I continue to find the characters and story really charming (and this episode may or may not have made me tear up at one point 🥹)

I spent Saturday doing some yard work, with Mom and Pops helping out a bit too. It was exhausting but everything looks really nice now! The container garden is looking pretty good too (mostly). I already have a few blooms on a couple of plants, so maybe I'll start getting some veggies in a few weeks. I'm so impatient 😂
That's it for this week's summary! Wishing everyone a fantastic week ahead.
