It's actually Sunday this week! Kudos to me 😅

Work is starting to get busy/stressful again, so it was a relatively quiet week for me. I did have some time for some fun things though, so let's get to it.

Chapter 378 of My Hero Academia was more enjoyable for me than it's been in the past few months. This is 100 percent just because Lady Nagant is back! (I like to simply call her Lady Gun Elbows 😂)

The tradeoff for seeing Lady Gun Elbows, however, was that Horikoshi also included a throwaway reference to Da Pump and their silly dance move. This was a super popular meme in Japan in... 2018. Reluctantly linking the video for reference here

Season 3, episode 3 of Miss Scarlet and the Duke was kinda a weird one. It was just Eliza and Patrick Nash out in the French countryside?! Nevertheless, still manages to be entertaining anyway. I'm hoping tonight's episode, however, will feature more characters.

I don't listen to many podcasts at all, but I try to keep up with Braving the Elements at least. It's been a fun look at Avatar the Last Airbender, and is hosted by Janet Varney (voice of Korra) and Dante Basco (voice of Zuko). New episodes come out on Tuesdays, though I'm perpetually a week or two behind.

I like to listen to an episode while I'm cooking. Because otherwise, I just focus too much on how tedious cooking is 😅 anyway, I recommend giving the podcast a listen. Every time I think an episode isn't going to be very entertaining, I'm consistently proven wrong! This week I listened to the interview with the "Tales of Ba Sing Se" writers, which provided lots of fascinating perspective.

But the biggest thing I've been focused on this week is still my rewatch of Power Rangers in Space. I'm limiting myself to two episodes per night, so I can enjoy as long as possible. Not gonna bore everyone with recaps yet, but here's a fun fact that blew my mind this week: PRiS episode 14 ("the Barillian Sting") features a ridiculous plot in which one of them gets stung by an alien bug and then turns into a giant alien bug too. This episode has always stuck with me because 8 year old Holly was traumatized by this one 😂 when I got into watching Stargate SG-1 in high school, I realized they also have an episode where someone gets stung by an alien bug and turns into a giant alien bug! (It's season 2 episode "Bane"). I thought FOR SURE that the PRiS episode must have borrowed from SG-1 much like they've clearly borrowed a lot from Star Trek and Star Wars.

But this week I looked up the original air dates for these episodes and... the PRiS one aired in April 1998. The SG-1 episode aired in September 1998. 🤯 I will never get over this!!

Y'all should watch both episodes, by the way. They're very entertaining (in different ways).

Moving on, I wrote this little Bakuiida thread on a whim during one of my lunch breaks. Didn't have the brain power to flesh it out more, but I think the premise is still funny.

Music links for the week:

YouTube randomly reminded me of this lovely acoustic version of one of my favorite Band Maid songs. I still think I like it better than the original version! Is it too much to ask for Band Maid to release more covers of their own songs??

Versailles is apparently celebrating the 15th anniversary of their "Noble" album, which makes me feel old because I have this album and I remember when it was released. This is a cool version of Suzerain, which in my opinion, has the best guitar solo of the whole album. Hizaki's still got it! And I'm jealous no one seems to have aged at all 😂 (there's a Revenant Choir joke here somewhere but I'm too lazy to find it)

Speaking of nostalgic songs, Flow appeared on The First Take to sing their old hit "Go!" The whole band gets to sing at one point, which was really fun!

Lastly, here are the fics I was working so hard on this month for the Planet BNHA exchange. I love that this exchange always gives me an opportunity to write a variety of different ships.

The nearest planet is always just out of sight (shinkami)

Half-buried in sand (todoiida)

Sparks in the evening sky (ochamina)

I think I was most pleased with the todoiida fic, which means, of course, it's the least read one 😩 such is life

That's all for now! I'm gonna continue being stressed about work this coming week, but I'm gonna do my best to make it through. Well wishes to the rest of y'all for a good week too!

Cheers for Sunday posting!

Thank you for the reluctant link :D :D :D I am so behind on jpop that this was new to me and made me chuckle <3

What a cute threadfic! I have been really behind on online stuff the past two weeks, so I'm glad you lifted it out here <3

I'm chuckling that the power rangers in space was first (also I love the acronym PRiS though I'm not sure why).

That's such a gorgeous cover (BAND-MAID); I do think it's really neat when bands release different (and live/acoustic) versions of their songs. It's a great way to appreciate their work in a new way.

Ahh Versailles; I am just as behind with jrock (TT TT TT TT TT) and wow you're right; I actually went to double-check the dates. Plastic Tree is another group that I feel like they haven't really aged (or maybe Ryutaro just has a baby face; also possible).

Good luck for your next week!
