alchemicink: Grinning tom and harry (Grinning tom & harry)

So I like to listen to the Trek Ranks podcast every now and then. Basically, they pick a category (like "scenes at a table" or "best one-off characters") and then come up with a Top 5 list for it pulled from all of Star Trek. It's always a lot of fun to listen to. (But also full of spoilers for stuff I haven't seen yet, oops 😅)

Anyway, the most recent episode I listened to was Top 5 One-Word Titles. The host mentioned how Voyager has the most one-word titles of all the Treks, which I thought was really interesting. But then they only ended up picking like two or three episodes from Voyager! So I decided, I will make my own Top 5 list just for fun, featuring only one-word episode titles from Voyager 😁

These are not necessarily in order, as I think I'd shuffle them around on a whim.

My picks:

#5) Night

(This episode actually was picked on the Trek Ranks episode, but it's so good, I had to pick it too.)

This is the Season 5 premiere episode, which stands out because it's not the conclusion of a two-parter. It's a generally quiet episode, as the crew is stuck traveling through a starless void of space for an extended period. But it's so different than what they usually deal with, that I really enjoyed it. And it introduces the Malon, which are some of my favorite Voyager villains (they are garbage men!)

Plus Harry gets so bored he starts composing new songs for his clarinet WHILE HE'S ON THE BRIDGE 😂

#4) Parturition

This is not really a standout episode for most people, but I really like it. This one happens during Season 2, and it wraps up the ongoing storyline where Tom and Neelix had been angry with each other. They are angry for stupid reasons, but I just love the resolution of them finally becoming friends because they temporarily got stranded on a planet and had to take care of a baby alien dinosaur thing together. What a fanfiction plot 😂

Also, they fight over spaghetti at one point too which is just visually funny.

#3) Counterpoint

Been a while since I watched this Season 5 episode, but I do remember how riveting it was. The crew has to hide telepaths while traveling through a bit of space controlled by racist jerks who hate telepaths. It's a game of cat and mouse between Janeway and the guy searching for the telepaths.

Janeway wins, of course :)

#2) Deadlock

Another great episode from Season 2. A wild one where the ship accidentally gets duplicated, and the two ships figure out they can't continue to coexist. While all that's happening, the Vidiians are also attacking and stealing organs. I know how the episode ends but I am always on the edge of my seat every time I watch this one.

Also, this is one of many episodes where Harry dies 😂 sorry Harry.

#1) Muse

Of course, my number one pick is a B'Elanna episode. This one from Season 6 is when she's stuck on a planet and helps out a struggling playwright with his latest production. There's a lot of fun moments in this one, but I just really love the message about how art can make an impact on people, especially during tough times.

Some honorable mentions:
☆ Twisted (which would have been on the list but I skipped over it here because I'm gonna write a whole post on this episode eventually)
☆ Dreadnought (a good B'Elanna episode)
☆ Macrocosm (featuring Tank Top Janeway destroying giant virus bugs)
☆ Juggernaut (I just really like B'Elanna in this one)
☆ Drive (space race time!!)
☆ Shattered (a very fun walk through memory lane)

This was fun to think about, and now I kinda wanna get back to my Voyager rewatch soon.

I don't think anyone here is into Voyager (or Star Trek?), but if so, feel free to tell me your favorite episode titles too!
