End of Year fic overview 2025
Jan. 1st, 2026 10:21 amEvery year, just for fun, I go back and look over all the fic I wrote in the past twelve months. So here are the results for 2025!
I posted a total of 53 complete fics on ao3, with a wordcount totaling 52,909.
The previous year was around 56k words, so I was a bit lower this time. But I'm always happy if I surpass 50k each year.
The Fics
I used to individually link each fic in this section, but it was over 50 fics this year and I do not have the patience for that right now 😅 Instead, here is a direct link to my works on ao3
I will note that several fics were written as a part of exchanges and other various challenges this year including
toku100challenge,
writetomyheart,
fandomtrees,
halfamoon,
linky's tokuficathon,
seasonsofdrabbles,
femslashfete,
pod_together, Klenda_V's Ultratober event, Linky's tokusatsu femslash ficathon,
elasticella's Hotties Haunting the Narrative event and Sapphic Stocking Stuffers event, and
tokuholidayspecials
I continue to be grateful that Dreamwidth provides so many interesting opportunities for fic writing. Thank you to all the wonderful people who run these events and challenges!!
What fandoms did you write for this year?
Another year featuring a lot of variety! (Though it continues to be a lot of toku these days lol)
Fandoms I've previously written for: Ultraman Arc, Yu Yu Hakusho, My Hero Academia, Stargate SG-1, Wednesday, Avatar the Last Airbender, Star Trek Voyager, Inuyasha, Killjoys, Kamen Rider Kuuga, Yu-Gi-Oh, Fruits Basket, Kamen Rider Ryuki, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, Ultraman Blazar, Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
And new fandoms for me this year are: Miss Scarlet and the Duke, No. 1 Sentai Gozyuger, Pretear, Ichi the Witch, Kamen Rider Gavv, and Ultraman Omega
That's a total of 23 fandoms (6 new ones!)
I've always liked dabbling in a variety of fandoms, so I'm very pleased with these results. (It might be annoying for my subscribers tho 😅)
What did you write this year that you wouldn't have expected last year?
I was not planning to ever write Kamen Rider Gavv fic, but then I did. Twice?! Well... Sachika and Lakia were my favorite characters, so when the opportunity arose, I figured "why not?"
I never would have expected to write Pretear fic either. Thank you to that one person from Seasons of Drabbles who requested it!
I also can't believe I wrote two time loop fics this year (but still didn't finish the kacchako time loop fic 😂ðŸ˜)
What was the most challenging thing to write?
Looking back now, nothing stands out as especially challenging. So I wonder if I need to challenge myself to do something weird and experimental next year 🤔
Honestly, the more challenging thing was convincing myself to post it after I was done. I sat on so many of these fics for months before I finally put them on ao3.
What was the most fun to write?
I had so much fun with Next Number One Battle!! Gozyugers versus an old printer!. It's not often I feel inspired to write humor these days, so I relished the opportunity.
Favorite opening lines?
Rution is falling.
~from A life in your hands
The dinner plate shatters against the wall. The front door slams. The motorcycle engine revs up and disappears down the road.
~from At the intersection of arguments and missteps
"It seems like we need a bigger axe," Yuma says, winded, as he leans over to catch his breath. "Or maybe... softer wood?"
~from Chop, Chop
Favorite closing lines?
There's no better way to start the week than a little Monday morning mayhem to keep people on their toes.
~from A wild scorpion chase
It's always been about facing the world head on, finding joy together in cozy spaces, hidden in the depths of shiny ceramic mugs and styrofoam to-go cups.
~from Adventures in Coffee Dates
Surely, it was just his imagination.
~from The Witching Hour
Thing that made you laugh the most?
I'm sorry but it's this bit from Next Number One Battle!!:
"I have a solution," Ryuugi announces. "Divine punishment!"
They all turn to see him suddenly holding a hammer in the air, entirely too close to the old machine. There's a maniacal glint in his eye.
"No!"
But also, honorable mention to this little joke from A place we all belong:
"How long will it take to get there?" Sorato asks. He leans closer to the window, marveling at the scenery as it starts to whiz by.
"Two hours," Kosei sighs.
"Hmm... flying would have been faster."
Ayumu doesn't think there are any airports with flights that travel between Ohito City and their destination, but Kosei is making that familiar distressed face again, so she doesn't say anything.
Thing that made you cry the most?
I tried to find a specific quote from A life in your hands but really the whole fic had me tearing up 🥺 This was one of my favorites to write.
Character you liked writing the most?
I think it's Ishido Shu from Ultraman Arc. I really enjoyed the fics where I got to dive into his point of view. He's an interesting character to me, but mostly I just like to write him yearning and pining ðŸ¤
Character you need to apologize to?
Apologies to Tezuka and all his angst in (not) giving up, (not) giving in. I'm sorry your life is tragic. Maybe next year I'll write him a nice AU
Favorite story of the year?
Always one of the toughest questions to answer. But I think it's Put up with the rain which I did in collaboration with
bluedreaming for
pod_together. Of course, I'm still enjoying writing Ultraman Arc fics, but this one was extra special to create with a good friend. If you haven't yet, please go listen to the podfic version!!
Most underappreciated story of the year?
with strings cut which is a relationship study of Ryuugi and Hoeru from Gozyuger. I don't think anyone else is as interested in their journey to friendship as I am 😅
Biggest surprise of the year?
I only wrote one Yu Yu Hakusho fic, one Fullmetal Alchemist fic, and one Fruits Basket fic. These are some of my favorite fandoms so I expected to write more of them. But I was too distracted by toku fandoms, I suppose.
2026 will be different!!
Wordcount Breakdown
0-1k: 33 out of 53 fics (62%)
1-5k: 19 of 53 (36%)
5-10k: 1 of 53 (2%)
10-15k: 0 of 53 (0%)
15-20k: 0 of 53 (0%)
20+k: 0 of 53 (0%)
Well, I'm still not making progress on writing fics longer than 5k. But I did write more 1-5k fics this time! (It was only 19% in 2024) So that's an improvement towards my goals.
There's nothing wrong with drabbles and ficlets, but writing so many seems to have rewired my brain in a way I don't really like. So I'm gonna work on making the wordcount breakdown more evenly spread in 2026.
What did you learn from your writing this year?
I learned that I miss writing silly humor fics. I would love to do more of that in 2026... if I can figure out which characters work best for those kinds of stories. And get my brain back in that silly fun mindset.
Goals for 2026?
As mentioned above already: longer fics, more humor fics.
One of my goals last time was to get more of my fandoms to double digits. I wasn't as successful as I hoped, but I'm definitely making progress. So that's another goal.
And, as always, I still hope to finish the kacchako time loop fic that I started in... *checks notes* 2019. Let 2026 be the year I escape the time loop!!
Special thanks?
Just a hearty thank you to anyone who reads my fics. Packaging up my headcanons into neat little stories is how I engage with fandom, so I appreciate when those stories resonate with people 🥰
Final thoughts?
2025 wasn't a bad writing year. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out!
Cheers to more writing in 2026!
