Started watching Gingaman (eps 1-14)
Sep. 2nd, 2025 08:35 pmI started watching Seijuu Sentai Gingaman over the weekend because I had nothing better to do 😅 I meant to start it earlier, just after I finished my rewatch of Power Rangers Lost Galaxy a few months ago, for comparative purposes. But I like procrastinating on things, so I'm just now doing it. Here are a few scattered thoughts on the first 14 Gingaman episodes:
☆ watching this series just makes me think the producers of Lost Galaxy were insane because WHY did they decide to go with a space colony motif when the sentai counterparts start off living in a forest and then moving to a horse ranch?? I know Lost Galaxy had a lot of production issues, but dang. They did not make things easy on themselves
☆ I like the series, but everyone mostly has the personality of cardboard so far. Hikaru is the exception but only because his personality is "bratty teen who likes food"
☆ that being said, Hikaru is my favorite so far (and maybe the writers' favorites too because he has two focus episodes before we even hit episode 10)
☆ I'm surprised that Ginga Green is the second in command here because that was definitely not what they did with Lost Galaxy (in that series, they cast a Black actor in the role and mostly kept forgetting he existed)
☆ just like Leo in Lost Galaxy, Ryouma does not really have an opportunity to grieve losing his brother at the beginning of the series. I'm a bit disappointed tbh. I wish more shows would let characters mourn.
☆ I have to keep skipping through the mech battles because the Starbeast designs still freak me out 😅😬
☆ Embarrassed to admit that Shellinda is my favorite villain so far...
☆ my favorite episodes so far: episode 4 (the one where Hikaru misuses his electric powers), episode 8 (Hikaru meets a chef lady), episode 10 (Hayate saves the day through the power of playing the flute), and episode 14 (Saya switches places with an actor who looks just like her)
☆ lastly, there's a talking tree in this series and I cannot stop laughing about it
