alchemicink: Yuma and Shu grasping hands (Teacoffee hands together)

I think January is a terrible time to set goals for the year because it's so dreary that I'm not motivated to do anything. So... I'm making a post about goals for the year now instead 🤭 The weather is getting nicer!

Offline goals:

☆ walk more: I love doing this, but I tend to skip it when the weather is bad. So really, my goal is to make sure I walk inside when it's too rainy/cold/hot to do it outside.

☆ gardening: last year was kind of a disappointing year for my garden, so I'm planning to do better this time. I gotta stop giving up when it gets too hot

☆ get out of the house more: specifically, I want to get out for more than just work. It's better for my mental health, and it's fun. Hopefully I can find some things that aren't too expensive.

☆ tap dancing: Pops made me a board to use, so I can do this right in my living room without scuffing up my floors. I've been avoiding it the past few months because of some foot pain, but I really wanna dive in and re-teach myself how to dance this year.

☆ find more recipes: I want to find some new things to try this year, as I'm getting sick of the same five(ish) recipes I keep cycling through 😅 y'all can send me recs if you want as long as they're not very complicated lol

Online goals:

☆ longer fics: I am still doing short fics, of course, but I wanna stretch my writing muscles and go back to longer ones. (Like, anything more than 5k is my current goal at the moment.) So far, I have posted two fics this year that are just over 1k words, so... I still have some work to do on this 😂

☆ write more meta: Fic is my usual way of engaging in fandom, but I really would like to write more meta this year too. I've had some Ultraman Arc ideas that I've been meaning to write for a while. And I have some ideas I want to write to post over at [community profile] tokufemslash! And my Trek Thoughts posts count as meta for Star Trek, so hopefully I will write more of them this year too.

☆ update my Ultraman Arc resource post: I have several links saved that need to be added (mostly movie related interviews and such). But also I'm going to need to update the links to Shu's diary entries soon too 😞

☆ watch more tokusatsu: I have a list!! There's just so much for me to explore in this genre right now, it's what my brain remains fixated on 😂

I guess that's it for now. Maybe I'll check-in in a few months to see if I've done any of this. Or maybe I'll just forget about this post completely. Who knows! (Certainly not me)

Yeah, [community profile] goals_on_dw has links to articles about reasons to start goal lists at different times.

Depends on whether you give up due to crops or your body. I have to reduce outdoor activity when it gets too hot -- yesterday was 88F in March. >_<

If the issue is crop behavior, then you have several options:

* Look for slow-bolting varieties of things like spinach that aren't well adapted to summer.

* Consider expanding summer crops like summer squash that thrive in hot weather with minimal care.

* Look for native edibles that flourish in summer heat, which will depend on your locale.

* If you haven't already tried this, consider a late summer planting for fall harvest.

* Some folks just write off summer altogether, gardening in spring and fall instead.

[community profile] recipecommunity and [community profile] creative_cooks are worth a look on DW. [community profile] veg_life is vegetarian and vegan stuff.

My Recipe tag has various levels of complexity.

For less-complicated recipes, you might look for a cookbook that says "easy" or "simple" or names a number of ingredients.

Don't overlook the value of condiment cooking. One base ingredient (e.g. a chicken breast or salmon filet) can turn out very different when coated with a spice rub, topped with salsa, topped with barbecue sauce, etc. Similarly, a master recipe with variations will serve you well, as do algorithms of the "one from column A, one from column B" type.

Check your cooking skills. If you have limited skills, then you could gain much by learning more skills, and there are cookbooks designed to teach kitchen skills through recipes that gradually get more complex as you progress through the chapters.

[community profile] marchmetamatterschallenge is running now, but there is also [community profile] month_of_meta in May if you prefer that timeframe.

[community profile] goals_on_dw has monthly check-in posts where folks can share their accomplishments.

I'm happy I could help!

If you describe your situation and what you're looking for, folks will probably help you find suitable recipes.
