Weekly summary: Feb. 11 - Feb. 17, 2024
The weeks are just flying by now. I can't keep up 😅 More than halfway through February?? That doesn't seem right!
Anyway, I was tired most of the week and had a bout of vertigo that wasn't fun, so I spent a lot of time reading (as you'll see in the fic recs section of this post lol). But overall, it was a decent week.
Now onwards, to the summary and such:
Finished season four of Miss Scarlet and the Duke, and it was quite a good episode! There's still no renewal announcement for season five yet (I remain optimistic), but it ended on a satisfying note that I wouldn't be terribly upset if that was the end. I can always write fanfic to fill the void if necessary 😁
I'm hoping to write a season four review at some point, but we'll see how distracted I get this week with other things instead...

Fic recs! So many fic recs! Mostly Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood because I got annoyed at how many fics from that fandom were still in my reading list (over 100) so I tried to whittle it down.
Here are the FMAB recs (they all coincidentally are gen fics):
☆ Ed shares wheelchair user advice to Havoc, drawing from his experience before he got his automail. I appreciate fics that acknowledge disability and how to live with it
☆ A very cool atla fusion fic. I would have read a whole 50k story with this premise, but this short story is just as nice too!
☆ Riza and Rebecca as roommates when they join the military. I felt like Riza's deadpan inner voice was so funny and well written here
☆ Mei & Ling on the way back to Xing after the Promised Day. There aren't enough fics exploring these two's relationship!
☆ Ishbalan Winry! Fascinating concept to explore. Also, this writer did an excellent job of incorporating words from another language but making it understandable
☆ Ed & Al & the story of Hohenheim. I also liked this concept, that Trisha told them bedtime stories about their father
☆ A little pre-canon story about Hohenheim and the Drawf in the Flask. Just a fascinating friendship study.
And here are just a few other fic recs:
☆ A Christine Chapel fic that bridges Star Trek Strange New Worlds with The Original Series. Lovely character study. Also featuring Erica Ortegas/Janice Rand (and /Christine Chapel)
☆ A chilling Yu-Gi-Oh fic featuring Ryou Bakura before the Memory World arc. Loved the absolute horror of it all. Content warning for violence.
☆ another Ryou-centric Yu-Gi-Oh fic where he vlogs about living alone. A very good character study in a cool style.
...you can see I'm really into character studies right now lol
Candy Hearts exchange had reveals this past week, though I haven't had a chance to read anything yet. But maybe I'll have some recs next week!

Didn't get to do too much more for Halfamoon before it ended, but I did write a character study about Izumi Curtis from FMAB for Day 9. It was really nice to have the opportunity to write about her.
Overall, the event was super fun! I'm looking forward to next year. And I'll probably make a masterpost sometime this week to gather everything I wrote for the event.

I saw the bald eagle again on my way to work!! Close enough to the last spotting that I'm sure it’s the same one this time. It feels so cool to keep catching a glimpse of this bird. I feel like I should give them a name... 😂

Music stuff!
HSJ's weekly video was Precious Girl which is another of their fun singles. (I think this one was from 2018??) It's a fun music video where they just act silly the whole time, but my favorite part is Takaki's little ponytail 🥰 I need him to bring that hairstyle back
Speaking of Takaki, apparently his appearance on Kame's YouTube channel was a series of videos and not just one. Here is the two of them dressing as their Gokusen characters and doing purikura together 😂😂😂 these two grown-ass men in their 30s 😂 they also play some arcade games!
There's also a video where they go eat together, but I haven't watched it yet.
Okay, back to music stuff:
New song from Hanabie: Otaku Lovely Densetsu. I maintain my original assessment of this band: I would have been absolutely obsessed with them if they were around when I was 15 😂
One of the bands I was actually obsessed with at 15 was An Cafe, a visual kei pop rock band. I was feeling nostalgic and accidentally stumbled across this video of them playing "Maple Gunman" at the last concert before they broke up. I'd never seen this before, but it was so fun to see them do this one live. Also, yeah, I did most of the hand motions that the audience was doing too 😁

Wrapping up this post with a brief basketball report: my team (NC State) won their game last night! It was a close one, but we pulled off the win against Clemson. This was especially satisfying because this team beat NC State last year when my brother and I went to the game for my birthday 💔 Vengeance was served this year!!
Anyway, I have rambled enough today. Wishing everyone a fabulous week ahead!

And you must be where I heard about Hanabie recently! Anyway they are coming to my city (I’m so shocked honestly) so apparently I am going to go (sibling knows al the things; I just reimburse them 🤣). I hope I’ll feel up to it that day (it’s a week night so the last time there was a concert I ended up having to bail)
I’m glad you did things for halfamoon! It was on my radar but February has just seemed to slide by unfortunately.
