Weekly summary: Mar. 10 - Mar. 16, 2024

It has been a very weird week, but mostly in a good way. I've been enjoying the extra sunshine and nice weather πŸ₯° but work was also exhausting πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’« I'm hoping this week will be a return to my more typical workload...

But anyway, let's get to the good stuff.

Firstly, a basketball update!! It's tournament time, which always means a bunch of craziness.

The NC State women's team lost in their conference tournament championship game last week. Which was disappointing, but they've been having an excellent season, so they'll have a good time in the NCAA tournament soon. (That's the national tournament for anyone not familiar with American college basketball)

NC State's men's team, however, ended the regular season in a tough spot, losing their last four games. So no one was expecting much as the conference tournament started this past week. And there were even rumors that the coach might be fired after the tournament.

But then, they won their first game on Tuesday. And then, their game on Wednesday. Then Thursday! Then Friday! Until they made it to the championship game on Saturday!!

It was a crazy run. I tuned in last night to watch the championship game (vs. rival team UNC) and I was kinda nervous. UNC was number one in the conference, and this would be State's fifth game in five days. You know the guys had to be exhausted.

But actually, when the game started, they played pretty well! And kept playing well until the very end of the game. In the end, it wasn't even close! NC State won the conference tournament championship for the first time since 1987!! I wasn't even alive the last time they won πŸ˜‚ and honestly was not sure I'd ever see my team win one.

So now they’re automatically qualified to go to the NCAA tournament next week, so we'll see how that goes. But for now, we celebrate πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³

Now, for fandom stuff πŸ˜… I've still been making my way through my reading lists for FMAB and YGO. Here are some recs:

FMAB first:
I really enjoyed this fic focused on Lan Fan and Riza. I love fics that fill in gaps in canon we don't get to see.

And here's a cute EdWin fic that was a lot of fun to read.

YGO fics:
This fascinating AU featuring Old Gods and Ishizu/Mai

Another AU but it's thiefshipping and an arranged marriage.

This is a great little character study of Malik pre-Battle City.

More thiefshipping! A college AU that had me absolutely cackling the whole time.

Maybe I'll read some other fandoms this week. Or maybe I'll get back to writing again. I'm still poking at a few things, and not making much progress, but that's okay. I'm having fun anyway 😊

If you've ever wanted to get into watching Gundam, I think this guide from ANN is really handy. It lays out all the main series and all the AU series, so it's easier to know where you're jumping in at as a new watcher.

I'm sure I'll be referring to it myself as I get the chance in the future to dive into more Gundam series.

The only music stuff I have this week is the usual hsj video.

Here's a performance of Forever from a concert in 2018. This is one of my favorite hsj songs, and I really wish they did more like it.

Anyway, I'd forgotten that Takaki and Hikaru sing the bridge together, and watching this made me feel things about those two again... πŸ˜…

Moving on!

[personal profile] bluedreaming rec'd me a new Thai drama to check out. It's called "23.5" and it's about two high school girls who become friends, but one doesn't know that they've also been chatting on Instagram together too.

The first two episodes are out, and they're very funny and cute. Also very cheesy, but I like that kind of stuff 😁 plus, I'm always excited to watch a series with ladies as the main couple πŸ₯° wlw series still feel so rare!

The series is available with English subs on YouTube here

As I mentioned earlier in this post, it was an exhausting week of work. A lot of stuff was going on.

The most insane thing was that an 18-wheeler demolished one of my favorite local restaurants 😱 miraculously, there were no life-threatening injuries, but the out-of-control truck did a ton of damage, not only to that restaurant but also that whole block of Main Street. There are only two restaurants in that little town - one only open in the evenings, and this one, which was only open for breakfast and lunch. So it was incredibly lucky that the crash happened between the breakfast and lunch rush, because otherwise, it's usually extremely crowded.

I'm still basically at a loss for words just thinking about it.

Anyway, another exciting (in a good way) thing happened this week too: I got to go to a grand opening for a new ice cream shop (in another one of our small towns around here). It was delightful. The ice cream is homemade, and I got to sample some that was made with purple sweet potatoes! It was quite good πŸ₯° I want to go again soon~

That's all I've got for this summary. I'm hoping for a quieter week 🀞 but life is never that predictable lol.

Wishing everyone a fantastic week ahead!

Congrats on your team's win!! :D :D Sounds like quite the roller-coaster!! And wow, glad there were no casualties though still very sorry for the restaurant owners and the town people. It seems like it was a beloved place.
