Free hugs for the wet cat (even more Ryuki thoughts)

I'm now through 39 episodes of Kamen Rider Ryuki, and I don't think I've talked enough about Ren. Which is an oversight on my part, because he's one of my favorites. (This may be partially because of his really nice cheekbones 😅)

If Shinji is an oversized puppy who keeps accidentally breaking things, then Ren is like a cat who keeps somehow falling into water. Can he catch a break? No! He's just perpetually broody because he can't advance in the Rider fight, can't bring himself to kill anyone, and can't explain to Eri what he's done for her. He's holding a lot of guilt (which may or may not be justified).

Give this poor wet cat several hugs, please.

(Although Ren would surely hate all the hugs too 😂)

More thoughts on this stretch of episodes below the cut:

On a happier note, I love that we had a few fun and silly episodes (episodes 29 and 30). They were a nice breather from all the seriousness from the usual plot. And I liked that both episodes featured group hangouts! Sometimes the plot is so hectic that everyone feels very separated from each other, so this was a nice change of pace.

This stretch of episodes also introduced several new characters. Megumi seems unimportant (like most ladies in this series unfortunately), but Professor Kagawa and his lackeys add a new interesting wrinkle to the conflict. (I'm sorry, I've already forgotten both their names even though one of them has popped up a few times before 😅)

Particularly, they pose the question "should you sacrifice one to save many?"

I've enjoyed watching Shinji wrestle over this question in the past few episodes, even though the "one" is Yui and I certainly don't want to sacrifice her!

In other news, Mr. Psychopath continues to be a pain in everyone's side. He's been really irredeemable so far (and I don't expect that to change). But I have to say that his most atrocious act so far has been when he drank a cup of raw eggs in episode 34 🤢🤢🤢 gross!

I'm actually getting really worried about Kitaoka because he's been clashing with Mr. Psychopath a lot (and even got him arrested again). I will be anxiously biting my fingernails as the story continues. Kitaoka is a jerk too, but he's a charming one. And I like what he and Goro bring to the story.

(The last time I said this about a character, they died 😭 Yes I'm still sad about Tezuka)

And speaking of being worried, I'm also worried about Reiko. She's getting close to figuring things out about the Mirror World. I hope she learns the truth before something bad happens!

But at least she's doing some journalism work. Which is more than poor Shinji's doing 😂 I'm sorry but I laughed when Editor tried to fire him. I mean, when is the last time Shinji worked at either of his jobs??

Maybe Kanzaki Shiro ought to pay the Riders considering how much of the fighting takes up their free time!

Then again, he's too busy being mysterious, so he probably doesn't have any money either 😝

My previous rambly Ryuki thoughts: Episodes 1-4, Episodes 5-13, Episodes 14-22, and Episodes 23-28
