Weekly summary: Mar. 26 - Apr. 1, 2023
I had a bit of a rough patch during the week, so I think this is not as much as I usually have for these posts. But more importantly, the week ended on a high note, so let's dwell on the fun things instead of the bad ones.
I only had a chance to read one fic near the beginning of the week, and it was this one: Fire Lady Melon Lord (Toph/Aang, background Zukka)
This fic reminded me that I really liked the idea of Toph/Aang back when I watched the show as it was originally airing, but I haven't seen a lot of fics for this ship as I've scrolled through the fandom tag the past few weeks. This story was an interesting, fun read (I laughed a lot once Sokka showed up during the last couple of scenes), but I will warn that there's one really brief mention of miscarriage, if that might upset anyone.
I have more lovely Ashido Mina fan art to share this week! She's just so pretty! And she got a moment to shine in a recent manga chapter, so I think that's why there's been more art floating around lately! Please enjoy this one and this one!
Speaking of tweets, I made a silly little tweet thread about Kouichirou from Denji Sentai Megaranger, because he reminds me of Iida 😂 I apparently have a favorite type of character, and it's the kind who makes silly faces and scolds authority figures!
Lastly, I don't have a lot of music for the week, but HSJ did release the music video for one of my favorite singles: Over the Top
This one came out in 2017 and was one of two opening themes HSJ did for the anime Time Bokan 24. (I've never watched it lol). But anyway, this explains the clock motif in the music video. I've always thought this song was really catchy, and the dance parts are really quite good. (Some of the choreo makes my knees hurt just watching it tho 😂)
And speaking of HSJ, they actually did a YouTube live on Friday. Congratulations on discovering all the wonders of current technology, Johnnys.
The video was actually more entertaining than I expected! They announced a new double a-side single for next month, played a silly party game, and celebrated Takaki's birthday with an extremely delicious-looking cake.
I wish I could find a decent translation of the game, because it was really silly but there were some parts that were above my language level. The general gist, however was that they had a set of old ridiculous photos of themselves, and they had to come up with a name for whichever card they drew. When the match of that card pops up in the stack later, the person who calls out the name first gets the stack of cards. Some names included "big eyes," "Samurai Blue," "the REAL Samurai Blue," "ikemen" (this was Takaki naming a photo of himself), and "aho" (idiot) (this was Yamada naming a photo of Hikaru). Maybe if the archive video doesn't disappear, I'll attempt a rough translation sometime.....
The only other music link I have to share is this new song from TMR! Okay, he's going by his name Takanori Nishikawa these days, but he'll always be TMR to me. (It's quicker to type)
Anyway, the song and PV are super dramatic, as any good TMR song and PV should be. He's wearing a hilariously dramatic outfit AND an eyepatch for no discernable reason?? (Idk, maybe it links to a previous video, but it's been a while since I watched any of his stuff, so I can't remember if there's a connection.) Regardless, it's fun and everyone should check it out if they like TMR's certain kind of flare.
