Weekly summary: June 30 - July 6, 2024

Thanks to the July 4 holiday, this was a pretty good week! I only had to work the first half of the week, and then got to relax a bit.

It was also an interesting week for fandom stuff, so I have lots of things to share:

I went back to reading my stockpile of G-witch fics, so I have two recs this week:

A sulemio fic set during season one where Earth House plays truth or dare

A post-canon Shaddiq/Guel fic that I really enjoyed (Shaddiq just fascinates me in general)

Put together my writing goals for July. I was a bit stressed when I wrote this so the goals are sparse, but that's okay! We'll see what happens this month.

I've already finished my Seasons of Drabbles assignment, and I'm making progress on Pod_together. So I'm in good shape so far. (I'm considering signing up for fandom gift basket, but even if I don't, I might try to gift a few things.)

I also wrote a little Wednesday (wenclair) ficlet for femslashfete this past week.

Lots of anime news being announced this week (thanks to Anime Expo), but one thing was announced earlier this week instead: There's gonna be a new Magic Knight Rayearth anime.

I forgot to save the link for this, but I read it on Anime News Network. I think Mappa is the studio handling it.

Mostly this news reminded me that I still haven't finished watching the original anime. It's available free and legally on YouTube by the way!

Wish I had more hours in the day to watch more things...

Music stuff!

It's been kinda quiet recently, but we got a couple of new releases this week.

New song from Gacharic Spin: Halfway, to the Beyond. Not as peppy as their usual songs, but it's still really pretty and the lyrics are really interesting.

Aina the End (formerly from BiSH) has a new song called Creation. I really enjoyed the dreamlike quality of the music video. And kudos to the dancers for being excellent even in those costumes.

Band Maid's new song Protect You is the ending song for an anime I'm not familiar with. But as usual, this is really catchy and fun to listen to.

And lastly, I didn't expect Hagane to release any more music since the last time I checked, half the band had jumped ship. But apparently the two members who stayed were able to recruit some new people! So here's 天下五剣. I love the guitar riffs in this. And the new vocalist and drummer are great!

I finished my rewatch of Ousasa (Kissing the Ring Finger) this week! The last few episodes get a little too dramatic, but overall, I still really enjoyed the series. It's not anything thought-provoking and it's all quite predictable, but it was a nice series just to relax and enjoy before bed each night. Maybe I'm just biased because I think Yamada Ryosuke's acting is really entertaining 😁

I kinda want to write a review of the series, but that depends on how busy I'll be this week.

And speaking of watching things, I checked out the first episode of Ultraman Arc yesterday. (Another thing that's free and legal on YouTube.) I really enjoyed it!! My only knowledge of Ultraman lore comes from when I watched Shin Ultraman a few months back, but I didn't really need to know anything to enjoy this first episode.

I watched the English dub actually (very good!), but I'll probably check out the Japanese sub at some point too. I like having multiple language options.

The dub is on a new separate YouTube channel, and you can read more about that news here

Now I'm considering watching Ultraman Blazar too... 🤔

And lastly, in irl news, I bought a new car! It wasn't exactly what I originally wanted, but I managed to find something affordable to me, and I like it. I'm glad the stress of decision-making is behind me now at least.

I'm gonna miss the CD player from my old car tho 😭

Anyway, that's all for this week's summary. Wishing everyone a super week ahead!
