Weekly summary: May 12 - May, 18, 2024
Got through a busy week! I have done a lot of sleeping this weekend to make up for it 😅 this coming week will be just as busy, but hopefully just as good. We'll see how it goes!
Starting off again with a few fic recs. I keep focusing on Yu-Gi-Oh and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood because they're the ones where I have the biggest stockpile of fics to read right now, but I keep adding more and never making the pile any smaller 😅
☆ A really lovely AU featuring a YGO rare pair: Kaiba/Honda. This one was really sweet and funny.
☆ A post-canon YGO fic focused on Yugi. I really liked the idea, and the support from Ryou along the way.
☆ A hilarious FMAB fic written as a series of documents about Yoki, from his resume to join the military through his discharge several years later 😂 seriously, so well done!
Not a fic rec, but I also started last night rereading my copy of Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones. I think I was still in high school the last time I read it, so I'm looking forward to it! I remember that it's different than the movie in a lot of ways (I've watched the movie SO MANY times). It's such a delightful book. I'm only through chapter 2 so far lol

I've been crossposting my hanami fics to ao3 this week, and that's been kinda depressing 😞 there is such a clear difference in engagement from just a few years ago, and I really wonder what's changed.
Anyway, I keep reminding myself that ao3 is an archive to store my stories, and any comments and kudos I get are just nice bonuses.

This week's prompt was "attempt" and I had a nice fluff idea for Kudelia/Atra from Gundam IBO. It's been a year since I wrote them, so that was fun! You can read the fic here

Tuesday was a long day because I was stringing for the Associated Press again for my state's second primary. (I previously wrote about my first stringing experience here) It was a runoff for republican candidates in two statewide races, and I live in a heavily democrat area, so turnout was LOW. Like, less than 2 percent low 😬 (what a waste of time and money basically...)
In fact, the state was so worried about the low turnout and maintaining voter secrecy, that my county and many others had to wait until all the precincts were in to report any of the numbers. And my job for AP was to call in the numbers, so I didn't get to do it until almost 11pm! A very long night!
But it's okay because I had a nice time chatting with the county Board of Elections members 😊

Three Weeks for Dreamwidth wrapped earlier this week, and I'm a little disappointed with myself for not getting to do as many things as I wanted. (I will probably just do my bnha rec list eventually, even though it's technically over!)
I did manage to do the fun username acrostic song challenge tho which you can check out here. I had too much fun picking out the songs!

The penultimate episode of 23.5 aired this week, and for like the third week in a row, this episode made me cry!? Idk why this show makes me so emotional lol, but I'm really enjoying it. This was quite an angsty episode, but it resolved on a good note, so I'm looking forward to how things wrap up next week.

Lastly, I'm getting ready for my annual trip to the anime convention: Animazement. This'll be my 14th year attending! (I didn't get to write my reminiscing post like I wanted, but I'm sure I'll get around to it eventually)
I'm just going for one day again this year, but it'll still be fun. I planned out my schedule yesterday and why do all the good things have to be scheduled for the same time 😠the annual dilemma!
Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing all the cool cosplays, learning some fun cultural things, and maybe buying a new DVD in the dealers room. We shall see!
