Snowflake Challenge #2: a few things to do this year

I'm trying my best to do the snowflake challenge this year! I didn't make a separate post for #1 (I simply updated my intro post), but I'm ready now for this next prompt.

Challenge #2

In your own space, set yourself some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.

I've recently put together some fic writing goals that you can read in this post and in my 2023 fic overview. (And here's my monthly goal post too if you wanna cheer me on, lol) Basically, to sum them up, I'd love to focus on writing longer fics this year that don't necessarily center on romance. And I also want to continue writing more stories focused on women (and wlw ships).

As for other goals this year, this is a great excuse for me to finally make a list of things I need to finish watching πŸ˜… I'm terrible at starting something, getting close to finishing it, and then taking a long break because I don't want to be done with it.

So here's what I want to finish watching (or rewatching) in 2024:

β˜† Ouran High School Host Club (2 episodes left)
β˜† Sakamichi no Apollon (4 episodes left)
β˜† Kamen Rider Kuuga (12 episodes left)
β˜† Mirai Sentai Timeranger (15 episodes left)
β˜† Denkou Choujin Gridman (37 episodes left)
β˜† Ghost Sweeper Mikami (40 episodes left)
β˜† Magic Knight Rayearth (41 episodes left)

A lot of these are older, more obscure things because that's what available free and legally for me (mostly on Tubi and Youtube). Also, I'm just living perpetually in Nostalgia Land πŸ˜‚

And once I make a good dent in this list, then I'll start digging around for more things to start watching. Definitely want to explore more Tokusatsu series. And I want to catch more of whatever GundamInfo has available. It'd also be fun to maybe do a rewatch of Farscape? (I'm not sure I ever saw the whole series actually). And I need to check out the Classic Doctor Who available on Tubi at some point too.

I need more hours in the day πŸ˜‚

Another goal is to simply be more active with fandoms when I can. I've been commenting a lot more on fic lately, and I'm trying to participate in more DW communities and events too. It's better for my mental health when I'm interacting with people instead of being a hermit all the time. Being an introvert who works a very extroverted job makes this difficult sometimes, but I'll try my best!

Lastly, in non-fandom goals, I'd like to do a better job with my vegetable garden this year. Last year was extremely disappointing (but to be fair, I was getting sick and didn't know it at the time). But this year should hopefully be better! I may try container gardening for the first time, if Pops will help me out getting started on it.

Good luck to everyone else out there working on their own goals for 2024!

Omg, always so happy to see Boku no Hero Academia mentioned on Dreamwidth :D :D And you're in the Planet BNHA exchange as well, I love it!! If you'd like some additional BNHA on your Dreamwidth reading page and that's of interest, I admin [community profile] bnha_fans on Dreamwidth (and no worries if not :D).

This is extremely relatable, please let me know if you find a way XD

Best of luck with your goals! :)

I’m used to passing over your intro post by now so it was cool to go back and read it! I admit I don’t 100% remember what the original one was (except a think a fair bit shorter?) but this one is really nice! (And I see the visual kei bit in the comments!)

Your goals are so great! I love stories that don’t centre in romance (though I have to admit to liking the presence of a happy establishEd couple or two, but not to the detriment of the inclusion of friendships; thankfully this is all not mutually exclusive!). Your finish-watching list is also so organized…I don’t even dare think about my not-yet-finished-watching list.

I love the way that I can interact with people online and that doesn’t mean I get exhausted by leaving the house in the evenings - your job is more social than mine I think but I still get my fill of in-person people during the day! I hope that being active in fandoms continues to be rewarding β™‘ β™‘ β™‘

Also best of luck with your garden! I guess I also have a mini garden goal: to set up the solar barrel watering system with one of my parents. Fingers crossed!

Good luck with everything!

Oh I would love to see you there! If you ever have thoughts to share on how to make the comm feel a little bit less intimidating, I'd love to hear about it :) (I'm planning to greatly shortly shorten the profile page in the coming weeks, at least!). Welcome and yay to fun exchanges!! :D

Yay! :D

You're not the only person who told me that you felt you were too casual a fan to join the comm, so that's helpful feedback, thanks! I need to figure out how to remove that impression... anyone who enjoys the series is welcome haha. Either way, delighted to have you there :D <3
