Weekly summary: Oct. 29 - Nov. 4, 2023
Hey, how are we already at November? I feel like I just started doing these weekly summaries yesterday. But time is confusing right now anyway thanks to Daylight Savings Time.
I'm grateful for the extra hour of sleep though!
Now let's get to the good stuff. It's a bit scattered and rambly this week 😅
As mentioned last week, I posted my first G-witch fic! I'm really happy with how it turned out, and it was pretty short so I also crossposted it to my journal here.
And speaking of writing, I put together a list of writing goals for the month here if anyone wants to help cheer me on 😅 I did indeed accomplish the first one on the list already: I wrote nine fics for Seasons Of Drabbles! Author reveals aren't until Monday, however, so I'll share what I posted later.
I did receive some really lovely gifts this round!
☆ Quiet train ride (a sweet FMAB fic featuring Al and a cat)
☆ Ally, 2001 (a fun SG-1 AU look at Ally finding out about the Stargate program)
☆ Pot Luck (a hilarious Strange New Worlds fic featuring way too much soup)
☆ Better in Time (a lovely Fruits Basket fic about Tohru celebrating Halloween through the years)
I think I know who wrote the Fruits Basket one 😏
There are a lot of good fics in the collection which you can check out here
I've also been reading through the Trick or Treat exchange collection too. Lots of fun stuff there too. My favorite so far has been this cute OPLA cuddle fic. I also really enjoyed this T'Lyn-centric Lower Decks fic

Halloween was this week, and I didn't really get to celebrate much, but it ended up being a nice day anyway.
I was driving to work that morning and happened to see a bald eagle just hanging out in a soybean field. This is like the third time I've seen one this year, which is always really cool to me. They're very striking to see in person. The white feathers really stand out.
It felt like a good omen for the day.
That night, I rewatched The Nightmare Before Christmas while cooking dinner. But I switched my DVD to the Spanish language track instead. Just as fun as English, to be honest! Even though my Spanish is too rusty to understand much, I know the movie well enough to follow it anyway.
I need more of my DVDs to have a Spanish option!

Browsing NPR as I usually do, I came across this fascinating article about the song Louie Louie.
I remember playing this in high school band class ALL THE TIME 😂 so this was a wild ride to read about.

I'm finally finishing up FMAB now! I decided to watch one episode a day, right as I wake up, so now I only have two episodes left. It's been ages since I watched the final episodes, so it's almost like watching it for the first time again.
There's honestly way too much happening in these episodes, but that's what happens when you have to juggle a cast of like 100 characters 😅
I didn't watch much else this week, but I happened to catch a part of PBS' Great Performances on Friday... until my TV stopped working again 😒 but luckily, the full version is available streaming right now until December! So I got to watch the full thing after all.
The featured performance was Message in a Bottle, a dance show about immigration, featuring the music of Sting.
Yes, it sounds like a really strange premise, but it honestly works. Somehow!
The dancers were stunningly excellent, and the music arrangements worked great. I didn't have any problem following the storyline, and even though it's not very nuanced, I think it makes its point well. I definitely teared up at the end. (Lots of things make me tear up these days tho lol)
One of my college roommates was a dance major, and I loved going to all her performances. Watching this reminded me how much I missed watching that kind of thing. Maybe I should buy tickets to go see something next year... though I'll have to travel two hours or more for anything. Oh well.
That's all I have for this summary! I think I might put up my little Christmas tree today, just so I can enjoy it for as long as possible this season. Wishing everyone a superb week ahead!
