Weekly summary: Oct. 8 - Oct. 14, 2023
I have been feeling so much better this week! Still have a bit of fatigue but even that is improving too. So this means I actually have quite a few things to share this week.
Let's get to it:
I'm still reading FMAB fics, so here are two more recs this week. The first is a Riza-centric fic where the team thwarts a train hijacking. It's really well-written.
The second is this excellent canon divergent family road trip fic where Hohenheim takes the whole family with him instead of disappearing into the night like he does in the series. It's really fun to see which parts of canon change and which ones stay the same, even with the change. I was engrossed from start to finish.
And speaking of fics, I have also been able to write some this week. I started a couple of short fics I haven't finished yet, but I did post a Suki-centric drabble. You can read it here on ao3 or here on my journal.
I was happy with how the drabble turned out, so I signed up again for another round of
seasonsofdrabbles. Sign-ups close on Oct 16th!

Weekly music stuff:
HSJ shared a concert performance of Dreams Come True which was their second single. What a blast from the past. It's always funny to me to hear them sing this song now that they're so much older because Chinen can no longer hit the high notes he could as a 13 year old kid 😁 but he tries!
They'll unfortunately never upload the actual music video for this song. Which is maybe a good thing because I remember from the making video that Takaki and Yabu had to film separately than the rest of the group (scheduling issues) so they were just CGI'd in all the group shots 😂
Anyway, moving on! Here's another concert performance from Nemophilia with their song Zen. I personally think this song sounds the opposite of zen, but I like it anyway lol.
YouTube decided to rec me some songs from Postmodern Jukebox this week, and they're really fun. The group does covers of popular songs but in styles ranging from 1920s jazz to 1960s motown and basically everything in between.
So here's a jazzy cover of Thriller featuring Wayne Brady as the singer, and two lovely tap dancing zombies.
And here is a New Orleans marching band style cover of Welcome to the Black Parade. Hell yeah, funeral jazz!
Lastly, Queen Bee has a new song apparently being used as an opening or ending for a new anime. There's no music video yet, but you can listen to Zero Ichi here

Some quick news from this past week:
Nozawa Masako received an award for cultural contributions. She's been the voice of Goku (and other characters) in the DragonBall franchise for many decades, and I think she deserves all the recognition for her work. (She was a guest at Animazement one year, and was absolutely lovely)
In other news, the live action adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho is set for December on Netflix. Unlike the recent One Piece adaptation, this seems to have been made primarily for a Japanese audience, so I'm not sure how well it's gonna turn out. But nevertheless, I'm still excited to see what they do with it. (I like terrible things so I'll be happy even if it's bad)
I kinda wish they'd give us a trailer tho! I'm a little concerned they haven't released one yet...

October is one of my favorite months, not only because of the Halloween stuff, but because it's also harvest season. All the farmers here are hard at work, picking peanuts and cotton right now. (Soybeans will probably start in November. Corn was picked in August/September).
There's a certain smell that comes with freshly-dug peanuts which makes me happy each year. It's basically just the smell of peanuts and dirt, and yet, it's somehow really nice too. Perhaps it's just the strong association with "home" that I enjoy, because I remember missing the smell a lot when I was away for college.
Anyway, harvest season always makes me happy. Wishing everyone a pleasant week ahead, no matter what season it is for you!
