Weekly summary: Apr. 23 - Apr. 29, 2023

The end of April already?! Doing these weekly summaries somehow makes time fly by faster. Plus, work has been busier than expected this month too.

Here are a few fun things from this past week:

I mentioned last week that I was watching Yamada Ryosuke's new drama, 王様に捧ぐ薬指 (which we are gonna call Ousasa for short). I caught episode 2 this week and it continues to be silly fun! Ayaka has to spend time with her new mother-in-law, and she's terrible at all of Mrs. Nitta's rich people hobbies. Tougou's friend Hachi accidentally discovers their sham marriage secret but promises not to tell anyone. Ayaka'a parents get to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary in style thanks to Tougou. (This was really the sweetest part of the episode). Oh and Ayaka finally moves into Tougou's place...... which really feels like something they should have done sooner lol.

I'm looking forward to Ousasa episode 3 this week!!

In music news, Gacharic Spin released a new single this week from their upcoming album! This is one of my favorite bands, and I'm absolutely obsessed with this new song: Kachi-Kachi Yama

They kindly added English subtitles to the video, but the lyrics are a bunch of references to different Japanese folktales. I had to do a lot of Googling, but it really makes the song much more fascinating to think about. The song itself is really fun and upbeat (it reminded me of Mindset). Plus, Hana got a chance to play drums again. Cool!

Additionally, Gacharic Spin shared a live video from a recent performance featuring another new song from the upcoming album. Warning for lots of flashing stage lights in this video though, if that bothers anyone.

One day I'll have to write a whole post about Gacharic Spin. They have a long and interesting history.

It's funny that Kachi-Kachi Yama mentions social media and mental health in its lyrics because I also read an interesting article from NPR this week on the same topic. The focus was on teen impact, but I think it’s relevant for adults too. And what I was most fascinated by actually were the limitations of studies on the topic. Just something to think about as a lot of people (including myself) spend way too much time looking at screens every week.

Moving right along to the fic portion of this post, I have two recs to share this week. The first is this really cute shinkiri fic by my friend Meg. I love a fun rarepair!

The second is this tdbk fic. It's a nice getting-together story couched in the middle of a case-fic, so I thought the story was very engaging to read. (Note: there's past Todoroki/Yaoyorozu here too)

Hopefully I have more time this week to dig into more fics on my to-read list!

I also posted two more fics from my completed fic stockpile this week:
Already here (Ochako/Mina, established relationship)
Cold Comforts (Kurama/Hiei, pre-relationship)

Ochamina is probably my favorite pair to write at the moment, so I'm glad I was able to get that one posted. And it was fun to write Kurama/Hiei for the first time! Definitely have more ideas for them in the future! (Actually, I'd like to write lots more Yu Yu Hakusho fics...)

One more fic thing: I'm very proud that Fated for all eternity (tdbk) hit 700 kudos this week! It's my favorite tdbk fic I've ever written actually, so I'm just happy to see people enjoy it. I miss writing ridiculous fics like that.

Lastly, I'm still on my Power Rangers nostalgia kick, so I gently forced my brother to let me watch the new reunion special on Netflix. "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once and Always" was, of course, INCREDIBLY cheesy. But what else would you expect from this franchise?? We are not here for amazing well-written dialogue and hard-hitting character development. We're here to kick monsters in the face while wearing spandex and saving the world! So I was quite entertained by the special, even if it wasn't the best.

Also, now I think I ship Zack/Billy...

Anyway, that's it for this summary. I have rambled long enough! Wishing everyone a phenomenal week!
