Hi! Nice to meet you 😊 yeah, I enjoyed the openings to anime so much that I got sucked into the whole Japanese music scene 😅 I can totally explain a little more about visual kei! Kei sorta translates to "style", so visual kei bands (usually from the 80s-00s ish) were focused not only on their music but also how they presented themselves onstage. A lot of the groups were known for heavy makeup, elaborate outfits, and interesting hairstyles, etc. No performing in jeans and a t-shirt here 😁

Here are a couple of examples if you're interested in the look (but don't feel obligated to listen if you don't like the music!)
Nightmare was one of the first bands I was introduced to (thanks to Death Note). They're a little more subdued in their looks than other groups.
Versailles is my personal favorite. They often go for elegant fancy costumes!
But, in my opinion, nobody did visual kei better than Malice Mizer. They really committed to whatever usual look they were going for 😁
